Celebrate Earth Day

Every year on 22 April people around the world get together to celebrate Earth Day through sponsored litter picks, workshops, talks and street parties. Here are some ideas on how to celebrate:

This year, which marks the 40th anniversary, visitors to Deepdale Backpackers and Camping in Norfolk will find an Earth Day exhibition with people on hand to answer questions about renewables, wildlife conservation and much more. You can discover events taking place worldwide at earthday.net.

Here are some ideas for celebrating Earth day:
• Plant some seeds – start some lettuce or mixed greens growing on your windowsill now and you could be eating your own salad within two weeks.
• Have an electricity-free evening. Make your own entertainment; eat, play games and read stories by candlelit for a night.
• Do a litter pick in your street or local neighbourhood.
• Pledge to leave the car at home for a day, a week or longer and discover what alternatives are available to you.
• Have fun. In many ways choosing a green lifestyle is a more fulfilling way to live. Getting outside in the fresh air, creating community and enjoying greater levels of self-sufficiency make for a earth centred life filled with joy.
How are you celebrating Earth Day? – let us know.
