As the nights draw in, create a cosy nesting space for your family using reclaimed objects and permaculture principles. Here are a few ideas.
KEEP BLANKETS AND WOOLIES close to hand. Offer guests house jackets and woollen blankets to help them feel cosy. Sew blankets onto the back of curtains to reduce heat loss through the windows at night.
WARMING FOODS Create food using spices such as cardamom and chilli to warm the body. Tea made with grated fresh ginger is a wonderful evening treat.
DANCE, WRESTLE AND TIDY Keep active to alleviate the cold.
GRAB A HOTTIE and use the water for your houseplants in the morning.
REARRANGE Take advantage of the sunniest rooms – perhaps bedrooms would be better in the south in the winter months.
SLEEP MORE – follow your body’s natural rhythm and rest in winter.
NOURISH AND PROTECT Being gentle with yourself is a powerful start to being gentle with the world.
