1. Feed your kids and teach them about reducing packaging with this gorgeous lunch kit. The Kids Konserve waste-free lunch kits are completely free from BPA, phthalates, PVC and lead. The Caterpillar Lunch Kit includes a recycled cotton sack, a printed cotton napkin, a stainless steel beverage bottle, a food kozy – a food wrap made from LDPE (low density polyethylene which is widely recyclable), two 8oz leak-proof stainless steel containers with green lids and a recycled aluminium name tag. At £35 it’s not cheap, but in the long run costs a lot less than continually replacing plastic containers (which can also be toxic).

2. This quirky vintage style lunch box features a pretty bird design (pictured). Made out of tin, it also reduces the amount of plastic sent to landfill, as tin is recyclable, and the product should last a lot longer than cheaper plastic counterparts. Designed and made by Blafre, an Oslo-based design company, it’s sure to be a hit with retro lovers. £10.50

3. The ingenious design of the Lunch Pot Lunch Box from Black and Blum means your child can easily carry soups and stews for nourishing lunchtime treats because of the watertight seals. Two separate containers stack on top of one another with a handy carry strap and a spork is included. Products are BPA free. £15.95

4. This sweet oilcloth lunch bag is a refreshing take on the traditional lunchbox idea. The bag can be personalised with a little tag, and is handmade in Nottinghamshire by Yummy Knits. There are a few different designs – we liked the Olly Owl one. £14.75

5. The LunchBots classic lunchboxes are the ultimate in no-frills practical sustainability. The LunchBots Trio Naked Stainless Steel Food Container features three compartments making it easy to keep different snacks separate. Made of the highest quality stainless steel, the containers are easy-to-clean, virtually unbreakable, resist stains and rust and should last forever. £16
