Storytelling events

Storytelling transcends all boundaries and has enriched and changed lives across the globe. Now in its 13th year, National Storytelling Week from 28th Jan to 4th Feb has an exciting range of activities up and down the country, bringing stories alive in our hearts and minds and introducing the next generation to the joy of the imagination.

‘In the beginning was the word, so we are told, and the man who gathered the words spoke and lifted life through parable, fable, saga, tale and story – each an experience, one way or another.’ Organised by the Society for Storytelling, National Storytelling Week goes from strength to strength. Now in its 13th year, the organisers are keen to reach as wide an audience as possible, changing lives with the wonders of something so simple, accessible and free. With story walks, puppet making and shows, poetry, animal folk tales and myths to name but a few of the activities, there’s sure to be something to inspire. Storytelling is one of the greatest gifts we can share with our children, inviting them to explore the wondrous lands of their imagination. As children listen rapt and entranced by the storyteller, they are learning about human nature and feelings, about sequence and consequence, about language and gesture and about the lives of others. Get involved with some of the fantastic events going on in your area.
