Watch the birdie!

Know a budding birdwatcher, or a little person who just loves counting? RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch offers the opportunity for everyone to get involved in surveying the nation’s birds. For just an hour on either Saturday 28th or Sunday 29th, the RSPB invites you to take a note of the birds you see in your own garden, local park or recreation area, and then submit your results to their website.

Now in its 30th year, the Big Birdwatch is a fantastic way for the RSPB to keep records of local birds and each year more people get involved. On the website you can watch a video of people counting the birdlife from a narrowboat, a care home and a city centre flat, to remind us that we can observe birdlife wherever we are. You can get together for a community birdwatch too – perhaps you’ll beat the 2011 record of 84 adults and 2 children! To download one of the bird counting sheets, find out how schools can get involved, or to join a Big Birdwatch community group, visit www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch
