Hi everyone,

I’m hoping someone may be able to help me or point me in the right direction!

As part of our national breastfeeding week celebrations we are holding a sling making session where we will be making wraps and which mums can decorate and take away for free (the wraps will be free but we are hoping for donations towards our local neonatal unit) None of us are professional sling makers just mummies who love slings and want to spread the word!

We will be demonstrating on the day to the mums how to use the wraps but would really like some instructions for mums to be able to take away with them on the day. The instructions I have for my wraps are all copyrighted so we cant use these - I was wondering does anyone have any instructions for how to tie a wrap which are not subject to copyright? Could anyone point me in the direction of some downloadable printable instructions please? Otherwise we’re going to have to make them ourselves - so I was hoping to save lots of time and effort and not having a ‘reinventing the wheel’ situation when I’m sure there are lots of wrap instructions out there!

Any help with this would be muchly appreciated!

Thanks

I’ve carried all the pixies, but I always used a stretchy wrap to start, then I’ve progressed to back carrying with a mei tai. But I’ve been wondering about ring slings. I like wraps and mei tais as they feel balanced and don’t put weight on one shoulder. I’ve tried a pouch before and found it difficult to use in cradle and uncomfortable to use too long as it caused my shoulder to ache. But I’d like to be able to breast feed with a sling, something I just can’t seem to figure out with a wrap. Would it be easier with a ring sling? And what are they like for carrying newborns? And do they distribute weight evenly or will I feel it on my shoulder still?

I know ideally I should check out a sling meet or similar, but right now the thought of it with three pixies and a newborn is somewhat daunting…

I’ve rekindled my love for the Ergo! Babe is finally happy to be in it- I’m glad I kept hold of it!! The only thing is- now he is bigger he sucks on the strap constantly. Had anyone used the pads before? I don’t want the sling to get completely ruined from his sucking! Even better- does anyone have any they no longer use? They’re nearly £15 on amazon!

New baby is due in May. With Olly I carried him round in one of those bjorn babycarriers, but would love a sling this time round. So I bought a stretchy wrap one with Olly but never ended up using it - it never semed to be tight enough and I never trusted it enough to even try trusting his weight to it, so it never got used. So I don’t want a stretchy one this time.

Looks wise, i love the heavy cotton looking ones, whic are usually stripey and bright colours, kind of peruvian looking! Are they the woven ones? Would they be ok for a newborn? I have spent ages reading through this forum, but have ended up totally confused. Tried looking up afew names on google, but the sites confused me even more. Treat me as a total beginner! Please help!

I’m at a complete loose end. Just recently got an ergo as my boy was getting much too heavy for me to cokmfortably carry in the close. He liked the close. He hates the ergo. He screams until he falls asleep but really doesn’t like it. Its also no better on my back as he is really weighty. I can’t afford to keep buying slings, so its kind of ergo or nothing now. He screams so much that I’m getting hot and bothered and already in pain, is it better to just put him a buggy as he’d cry anyway? Not a very AP thing to say but I don’t know what to do. Going out is becoming a chore!

Some advice please? My baby was only 6lb 4oz at birth and now at 12 weeks has doubled his birth weight and then some- he’s almost 15lbs. I know that’s no especially loads but consdiering he was small, its pretty good going! I have a close ring sling that I use but he’s starting to feel too heavy for it- I know its up to heavier than that technically, but it doesn’t feel very comfy right now. The straps dig in and he feels really awkward in it. I suffer hugely with back issues and carrying him is beginning to really hurt. Is there a bettter carrier style now that he’s bigger? I’m considering an ergo for when he’s much bigger and can be worn on my back. Any advice welcomed. Thanks.

What do you wear? I love using my RS or MT but both don’t feel right over jumpers. I did see a lovely fleece purposely for baby wearing but for those of you who don’t have those, how do you keep you both warm? At the moment I put ds2 in a warm jumper, his baby legs to keep his trousers and socks together. His muddy puddles rain suit and his leather shoes but these don’t keep his feet warm. I then put on a fleece unzipped and a raincoat unzipped but i’m often chilly. I’d love the above mentioned fleece and a baby wearing raincoat but if you don’t have these what do you do?
