From their text:
“Our vegetables and fruit are about to be patented to grow Monsanto’s profits, making food more expensive and strangling the farmers we rely on everyday. But we can pressure European countries to step in and stop the corporate food attack. We have no time to lose—up to 800 patents are in the pipeline waiting to be approved!”

Hiya.

Just wanted to share this and wondered if anyone might be willing to take the time to send a letter and/or email of support?

Will You Help ?

Charlie and Meg are living in a beautiful roundhouse, built by Charlie on our land in Glandwr. The house is unobtrusive and low impact, built mainly from local and recycled materials. They want to stay in the village to bring up their family within the local community, and to work on the land. Their retrospective planning application is with the council now and they need as much support as they can get! We are all aware of how hard it is nowadays for young people to get housing, and Charlie and Meg desperately want to stay here.
Please support our application: Letters can be submitted online via http://www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk using planning reference number 12/1070/PA or they can be sent to Director of Development, County Hall, Haverfordwest, Pembs, SA61 1TP, also quoting planning reference number 12/1070/PA. Letters need to be received by the 4th of April.
We know it’s a pain to ask but if you do write a letter, could you please email us a copy of it (to chilifrusciante at aol dot com), as letters have been known to get lost.

The couple in question are in their mid-20s, have grown up in the area, and their home was built on family-owned land - it was completed just before their baby was born last year. It’s situated near the same village (Glandwr) as the Lammas eco-village which is just a few miles down the road from me. They’re now seeking retrospective planning permission (never a good move with Pembrokeshire County Council who aren’t the most, ummm, supportive organisation, based on personal and family experience ). An enforcement notice has already been served by PCC. Letters and emails of support would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve just been forwarded this website about a new bib designed to hold a bottle at the “right” angle to enable you to prop feed your child from 3 months: http://www.mummaandbubba.com/babybib.html . There is also a prototype for a “feeding arm” which attaches to the cot or buggy.

Prop feeding obviously isn’t ideal for bonding, but it is also a choking hazard, and has been linked to tooth decay and increased middle ear infections. It is actively discouraged by the NHS and Social Services.

The questionaire for feedback on the page isn’t working, and you appear to not be able to email directly from the page, but the email address *does* work if you copy and paste it into your email. Just thought people here might like to register their concerns - it appear to have been designed by a mum rather than a corporation, so there’s a chance that if she gets lots of emails expressing concern she might rethink the whole idea….

I hope you don’t mind me spreading the word about this petition. I was just sent a link to it.

http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/defragovuk-abolish-the-use-of-the-captive-bolt-gun-to-destroy-greyhounds-in-the-uk?utm_medium=email&utm_source=action_alert

It is calling on DEFRA to ban the use of bolt guns to kill greyhounds. I was not aware of how unregulated this racing industry is and it seems to me this petition might be a good step on the road to safeguard the welfare of the greyhounds. Some of the stories in the background info are just horrible.

Extract from the petition text:
“Attempted destruction of greyhounds by bolt has resulted in innocent dogs being left to suffer in agony for hours, before being found and taken to a veterinary surgery to be finally put to sleep by lethal injection.”

Thank you for signing and spreading this petition:-)

Cathy Warwick, General Secretary of the Royal College of Midwives, has lodged a petition, asking the Government to recruit 5000 extra midwives into the NHS in England.

‘Our argument is that the work has increased to such an extent now that midwives really can’t offer the highest quality care that women in this country should certainly be able to expect. That matters because there is now an increasing body of evidence that indicates that aspects of care which midwives specifically offer are really important to high quality outcomes,’ she says.
