Hi
Just booked up tickets for Barefoot2013 for me and the little ones- we went a couple of years ago and had a lovely time. they are planning on it being a lot quieter this year, and as they are organising less activities it is only £30 a ticket, £15 for children for the whole weekend!!!!Anyone else wants to join me there

http://www.barefootfestival.com/

How do you mark the New Year?

I need some inspiration.

We normally, in the garden, make and float some boats with our hopes and wishes for the year on new year’s eve (to be clear, this tends to be things like “I wish another harry potter book would be written” and “I wish mum would let me have haribo”, and “I wish we could have a better pet than a venus fly trap”, rather than any wonderfully spiritually enlightened stuff. On new year’s day we plant something, (we normally do bulbs on the solstice so usually a tree or shrub or something a bit bigger. I actually even have stuff to plant). But that’s not going to work this year because it is raining like we need to start building an ark and the ground is just pure mud.

I guess we can do this stuff indoors, maybe plant some hyacinths or something, and float boats on a bowl, it just seems not quite so exciting!

Everyone is sick with an ever-changing catwalk of viruses, and I have been working flat out through the holidays on uni stuff whenever the kids are asleep or watching a film. Kind of at that stage where I need a meaningful marking-thing off the peg, iykwim. Just don’t want it to end up with an evening watching the golden compass/narnia again.

Please tell me what you are getting up to so I can steal your ideas

The Big Draw

Not sure where I found out about this and we are also drawing (get it?!) to the close of it, but there are still lots of art activities over the next week as part of The Big Draw. You can find out what’s on in your area here: http://www.campaignfordrawing.org/bigdraw/search.aspx . We are going to a shared lunch and community draw today and a mandala event on Tuesday, and that’s all within 10 miles of where we live, so there’s loads of events going on.

ETA: Use the county search - the town and postcode searches don’t seem to pull up the events!

So, we have just bought our tickets and a friend is lending us their bell tent so we are all very excited. Apart from general camping stuff is there anything special we need to take? Any tips?

Jez,

Just thinking about this section of the forum - is it worth changing the name of this to “Festivals and Camping” as opposed to just “Festivals” - it would seem to encompass more..?

Just a thought, I’ll get back in me tent now

Camping.

Tips for making camping a bit more pleasant basically.

I slept on the inflating mat last night,a nd suprised by how comfy it was..although i do wish it was a “proper” double rather than two singles basically taped together..while the dip in the middle wasn’t uncomfortable, it would just have been better without it.

Anyway, I ended up getting up in the night (lol about 10) and getting a sheet for the mat becaues the sleeping bag was slipping around on it llike an ice rink and I was finding it very irritating. Also, the double sleeping bag is fine for sneaking into for cuddles, but sharing it for the whole night with Rye wasn’t doable, so I got him blankets and he snuggled up all cosy. I guess I need to buy him a sleeping bag..should I just get him a normal single, or a child’s single? He is tall for his age, usually mistaken for 6 or 7yrs old.

How do you get a sleeping bag back in the bag? Like I said my double has really slippy outter, and it’s near on impossible to roll up, so getting it back in the bag is just not happening. Is there a trick I’m missing? I suspect I’ll crochet myself another bag for it.

Do you take a sheet for the mat, or do you use something else?
