Having had a major clear out recently, DH and I have discovered we are the proud owners of a HUGE bag of music tapes (mostly 80’s stuff) which we cant play as we dont have a cassette player anymore.  I have tried to Freegle them but no-one is interested so I wondered if anyone knew if you can recycle them?

Thanks for any advice.

Don’t know about recycling them - think they will be classed as electronic waste (I’m sure video tapes are). However, if you’re feeling crafty I have seen projects before where people have pulled all the tape out and knit or weave with it.
Schools/art colleges, etc may take them for art/craft projects, do you have a Scrapstore in your area - they take most things and then groups can get the stuff from them to re-use - probably again be art/craft people or school type groups.

Sorry for delay - been on holiday!

It’s all embarrassing 80’s stuff but quite varied. Everything from Yella to Ennya!!

What kind of stuff are you into as there might be something - I even found my original taped from the radio - Band Aid cassette complete with homemade cover featuring the africa guitar logo cut out of a newspaper! Did I ever have THAT much freetime? cheese

Our local Oxfam surprisingly still takes cassettes as they do still have resale value - it probably all depends on whether your local shop has a volunteer who can be bothered to do the research and online listing. In fact we have sold quite a lot on ebay at surprisingly high prices. It all depends what they are (I was around in the 80s but I’ve never heard of Yella!!) of course, but you might get lucky.
