Anyone willing to share?  Am looking for some inspiration, so far I’m planning on making a paper advent calender and reading Moomin books with a view to try and make a Moomin snowy valley scene (we are hopefully having a home ed trip to see a Moomin exhibition!  Later in the month we’ll be making cards and paper chains and I’m hoping to take DS to his first theatre and ice skating!  There are so many festival days and seasonal crafts, books etc I was wondering if anyone can recommend anything they have done that worked well!

Lots of things planned.  Ice pictures, freezing leaves, berries etc in a shallow bowl filled with water and left out overnight, with a loop of string hanging out of it, come the morning you have an ice picture to hang in the garden.  Making fat balls for the birds, snowflakes cut out from paper, gingerbread house, making Christmas cards, snow ball fights with scrunched up newspaper (in the absence of any snow), reading winter/Christmas books.  Painting wrapping paper from packaging paper.

Could make a wreath from hand prints from the family, cut out and arranged in a circle.  Have also seen reindeers made with handprints for the antlers.  Making candles. I plan on activity a day for advent, but at this rate, I could do with it being a bit longer!

oooh like the ice pictures - and I could even do that inside at the mo (not joking). At our Steiner group we made bird feeders by smothering pine cones in peanut butter and rolling in bird seed (remember to attach string and perch first - unlike me).

I like the ice picture idea!  What wintery stories are you reading?  I mainly have Christmas ones here, a bit short on winter ones!

We have some books about penguins and polar bears, along with an Elsa bestow book, Ollie’s new skis.  There are christmassy ones, like the jolly Christmas postman which is good fun, and Willow at chirstmas which I love.  We have christmas story with all the childrens names incorporated into it, which no doubt will be read, as well as Slinking Malinki’s Christmas.

Has anyone got/read Doing Christmas by Sarah Garland?  Wondering whether that would be a good one?

We have this and love it.  I didn’t know when I bought it that it was about a single mother but that just made it even more perfect for us!
