Can anyone recommend or tell me their favourite sling or back carrier suitable for a 14 mth old please?

We used the close sling for most of the first year & now need to get something more suitable for carrying DD - have no idea where to start!

Thanks and Happy New Year to you all - hope 2011 is a wonderful, peaceful year for you x

I really like the Ergo, I carry my 2 year old in that and she’s very happy in there. It offers great lower back support. You can wear on front, back or hip.

Definitely the Ergo or Toddlerhawk would be my choice. Best for me was the TH but dd liked the Ergo best!

Ah the eternal question - which sling?! smile I always say the same thing, try them out. I like a particular thing but you might not and you might find a sling meet the best way to decide what you do prefer. Check google and facebook for your local ones. Personally, I wrap. A 4m wrap should be fine for most people to back carry. Didymos and Bebelulu are thicker and easy on the shoulders, Storchenweige, Neobulle, Ellaroo, Hoppediz and Ellevill are thinner but just as supportive, less cushy on the shoulder, gauze wraps are no good really as they cut in the shoulder. Look on Natural Mamas FSOT boards for good pre-loveds.

Toddlerhawk for us, tried a patapum but didn’t get on with it.  Still use the toddlerhawk today, Reu is 2 and half.

I would recommend an Oh Snap which is the babyhawk full buckle carrier, really good quality and extra adjustable, it is the most comfy carrier i have found for back carries and have used it daily since i bought it nearly a year ago. Some really nice fabrics available if you get a custom but you can also find them on fsot on natural mamas if you watch out smile

I *love* my Mei-tai, and have done since my daughter was about one. My MIL made it, and it has fab wide straps and a lovely back smile

I love my Woven Wraps, sometimes a Pod, or a MT-we have a Kozy

Definitely would recommend going to a Slingmeet or similar, as you can have a play with different slings and see which suits you and bubs best. As PP said, what we like, you might not.
I never got on with Ergo’s, but found Manduca’s and Connecta’s much more comfier (although not as comfy as my woven’s or DP’s Kozy)
