My 4 year old starts school in September. I have sent of my application with my number one choice being a school that is 5 miles away because I really wasn’t happy about the village school. The ‘red’ school is really lovely and the teachers very caring but the school I have a feeling is going to be very academic although I did see lots of play things too. I am worried that ds won’t like it and we will have trouble every morning like we did with his one day at nursery. At the moment he goes to play school which he loves with all of his little heart and wants to stay there forever.

Part of me thinks school would be good for him and then the other half would dearly love him to be at home with me, playing. Perhaps part time school would be the best solution here if it only exhists.

How do I find out about home schooling and how do people find it?

Hi and welcome to the forum. Hope you will find it as enlightening as I do.

There are quite a few threads about home education on this forum. Here you can find them: http://www.thegreenparent.co.uk/forums/viewforum/209/

You could find your local home ed group through the yahoo mailing groups. You can also find more information on the Internet, websites such as: http://www.heas.org.uk/ or http://www.home-ed.co.uk/

John Holt’s books (American), such as “Teach Your Own”, “Learning All the Time” are great. You might also find useful “Free Range Education” by Terri Dowty (British), which is a collection of personal accounts.

I highly recommend trying to find home edders near you, nothing beats talking to people who are living it. Also you could look into flexi-schooling?
