Just wondering if anyone had any comments about any of the schemes available

At the moment I’m leaning towards Minimus, but would be interested in any suggestions

Also, and I know this is a long shot, if anyone has minimus resources they want to sell on, specifically the pupil’s book and the teacher’s book, I’d be interested in buying them

Our home ed group has a weekly Latin session and they use minimus. I haven’t been along, so can’t coment personally, but could put you in touch with the mum who runs it if you’d like?

Our local library has the text books to borrow. Why not try yours? You could photocopy pages for working on, and you could re-new the book a couple of times too.

lol, in our local library? No, I did check there first. We have the most boring library service in the country, I think. Which might be ok if we didn’t have a FOUR POUND fee for inter library loans…but anyway.

I’ve ordered the book from amazon, on the basis that I can always send it back if its rubbish. Really looking forward for it to arrive!

September that’s really kind of you, let me see how I get on and I might well take you up on that offer.

Would you let us know what you think of it?  I will be doing Latin with mine in the future and haven’t decided on which curriculum to use yet.  I was thinking about Prima Latina maybe.

I’ve always fancied learning myself, interested to hear what people like for using with their children.  smile  Any adults joining in learning with their children, or did you guys study Latin at school yourselves?

my son (8) and i have just started latin using this book: Getting Started with Latin: Beginning Latin for Homeschoolers and Self-taught Students of Any Age. we got it from amazon for £11. it’s very early days but we’re enjoying it so far. there are mp3 files you can download to accompany the book. this is of great help for pronunciation. the only point i will make is that the author is american and americanisms have crept in. i have never done latin before, so i’m learning too.

My oldest DD love her weekly (Sundays while the roast is cooking, so about 45min to an hour, before Dad then reads stories to them both while I go prep veg, and finish off) Latin Session, and really enjoys using the minimus book as it give you interpersonal relationships, and help the language come alive through the family and their activities etc…. Our copy was bought fom amazon 2nd hand, teachers (£25) and student book (about £8.99), once I realized she was ‘into’ it. We previously borrowed from our local library for a couple of weeks at a time, reading though, and photocopying a few pages, then waiting 2-3 weeks and borrowing book again. It was only not on the shelf when we wanted it once, sadly. Sort of as we had the resource for free, but sad others weren’t enjoying it too…
