have started experimenting with some second-hand motherease nappies and wraps i was given before DD was born - i have to admit to using disposables pretty much for the first 6wks…was a bit daunted by the whole washable thing.  however, the amazing explosive effects of my DD’s breastmilk poo has forced a re-think.  i have not found a dispoable that contains it.  the motherease, though, are flippin’ wonderful!  combined with flushable liners they really do an amazing job at containing even the most copious of poo offerings!

not expecting this to create much in the way of discussion, just pleased as punch and wanted to share…

Yay for cloth nappies! I loved ours and feel quite sad that as dd doesn’t need them anymore, we won’t have any drying on the washing line this summer!

Ophelia - they kind of ‘absorb’ stuff and yes, some of the stains are quite impressive but have found a hot wash and some sun do a pretty good job!  i am still using ‘posables at night as DD has just started sleeping through but hoping, perhaps with some boosters, that we might manage washables at night too.  i’m also glad i didn’t try and use them from day one - dealing with a new-born (my first) was enough to begin with, but am sure if DH lets me have another i will be braver and start using washables pretty much from the start.

p.s. is that Glastonbury tor in your avatar?  are you another Somerset girl? x

Fab aren’t they? We used disposables on holiday and had so many poo leaks! I’ve used cloth with all 3 of mine and love it, esp ME.

Sleeping through though - wow, that’s impressive smile My 4 month old still feeds 2 hourly. Mind you, DD1 didn’t sleep through until 2.5y and DS was over 3.5 years so I’m not hopeful for a long while yet smile

Hugs and happy cloth bumming wink

Oh I am sure we will be having plenty of fun and mess with this wee one…its my first too, bit hubby seems much more confident than me about poo handling, so hopefully together we will sort it.

And yep, its Glastonbury Tor. Im not a Somerset girl, but I have been visiting on Beltane for many years now…its what we call our spiritual home, such a beautiful and calm place…and no shortage of places to eat good food of course wink

Is that where you are from? We plan to up sticks one day and either plant our roots in Somerset or Mid Wales, both such gorgeous places.

I waited til the mecomin had stopped with both my DDs (about 12days). Theres something about trying to hose off stick black coal tar cack, that doesn’t need washing it off a nappy as well added to the mix imho.

hey mamas!  so good to hear more positives about washable nappies - such a revelation for me (despite being brought up in good ol’ terry naps by my mum and her waxing lyrical about cloth….....!)

sleeping through, yup, DD 10wks on sat and started this lark about two wks ago.  shocked the hell out of DH and i - hadn’t been doing anything to *achieve* this LOL

Opheila, am based in Somerset about 12 miles south of Bath so Glastonbury is on my ‘doorstep’.  also close to Avebury which is very much ‘home’ for me in an energy/spiritual sense.  Its a lovely, lovely county.

We used to use bamboo Tots Bots overnight, with a fleece wrap; they worked really well on the absorbency front, even without a midnight change, so might be worth a thought if you feel like a walk on the dark side. wink

Yay! I love that you’re loving the cloth nappies! I also am a huge fan and love the bubble bum they give. It makes dd easier to hold one handed! For what it’s worth, we used cloth from the first nappy and it was okay with the meconium, although our compromise was flushable liners for the first few weeks before moving to fleece so no scraping tar off the nappies. Although, to be fair, I was so anaemic from a hemmorage that I don’t know if I changed any serious meconium nappies - dh did them all!

Yay!! Cloth is soooo much more efficient than ‘sposies, that I reckon sometimes they actually SAVE washing!! And once your LO turns into a Houdini when it comes to nappy change times, you can swop over to a pocket of=r popin nappym for ease and speed! @ parts definitely best until weaned though!

I’ve just done the switch to totally cloth in the last week and most of this week Roo’s had a poorly tummy :( On the plus side I’ve been rewarded for my bravery in not using disposable liners as I’ve discovered the fleece is great at soaking up the runny poo and a vanish soap bar has got rid of most of the discolouration before I even get them into the machine.

Can’t see a reason why I’d consider going back to disposable liners now (I used them when I did the nappy trial scheme). I’m loving my Motherease and assorted boosters/inserts/fleece liners - how could anyone tell me that it’d ever be this rewarding to be using them??!!!

Motherease are wonderful - Gaia is in them now.  She’s nearly two and making noises about toilet training so I know my cloth nappy days are numbered.  For 4 years I’ve been washing them and wrapping my little ones bums in them.  I love them and everything they stand for.  I will be sad when they no longer adorn my washing line (but I will not be sad that I don’t have to wash them anymore ... oh the mornings I’ve been late to work as I just *had* to put some on to wash to hang out on my return.
So watch this space as once she’d done with them I’ll be passing them on on here :0

Enjoy your journey.

Much love X
