Hi has anyone any ideas?

I used to use cotton bottoms with my first and used them again on my second, but he is a big wetter so gave up  at night and used p baby dry disposable but even with these he is wet through!!

I have decided that I really want real nappies to work for us, so have bought some little lamb and a natures babies wrap but he is still dripping in the morning!! I have put in a flannel and the booster from cotton bottoms with the same result! His vest, pj and growbag are wet!

I still use cotton bottoms in the day although he needs changing every hour and a half as vest and trousers are wet through, I am sure little lamb will be fine in the day but have not got enough to try yet, am slowly building these up.

Also does anyone know where you can sell used nappies so I can buy more of the above?

Have you checked that the nappy covers are properly water-proof? What kind are you using? And making sure that not even the tiniest bit of nappy is poking outside of the cover to wick the moisture outside the nappy? Otherwise, I'd recommend trying a hemp nappy, these are really absorbent but also fairly slim so you can pack them with additional boosters without your lo ending up with a big fat bottom. I used Tots Bots on both mine at night - they are pretty big and absorbent too, especially with added boosters.
How old is your lo btw? Is he old enough to be able to limit what he drinks in the hour or so before bed, or to get him to sit on the potty before he goes to bed?

Hi, thanks yes his nappy wrap should be water proof.  The nappy i use are bamboo which should be ok, I will try to get some hemp boosters do you know where I can get some?

He is 21 months but has 9oz milk when he goes to bed and at lest 2 9oz bottles of water over night which is really to much but he wont have a dummy (which he used to) which is a shame as he uses the bottles as a comforter.  He has major eating probs which means we have to take on step at a time only just got him off 4 bottles of milk over night!!! He still is on puree food.

My daughter went through a stage of being drenched over night, and I would have to change the sheets every day, but she's fine now, although she's younger than your lo - she's nearly 17 months now.

I think it could be the fluids that he's drinking that make him so wet, but like you say if he's a difficult eater and uses the bottle as a comforter then there's not a lot you can do about the wetness.

We had issues with wraps and eventually found that nature babies wraps worked the best for us, and motherease onesize with booster pads on a night.  I think you will just need to boost him up as much as possible.   I think stuffables are good because (don't quote me on this because I've never used them ???) I think you can shove as much padding in as you need, depending on how much of a heaver wetter your baby is.

There is a website where you can buy and sell used nappies - usednappies.co.uk - I've used this a couple of times and they have a lot of stuff on there and it's easy to use.

You may need to boost more or it may be that your wrap is too small and the pressure from tightness is causing wicking/leaking.
I  wou;ld recommend wool covers for night time smile (well and daytime!)

i know you dont wanna hear this, but we tried everything with our dd, and in the end had to accept that the ONLY thing that worked was a disposable.
we tried just about everything.
we were recommended a minki huggle which is huge, but this didnt workk so we tried stuffing it with a cotton bottom prefold and as many muslins as we could hamanely fit in AND IT STILL DIDNT WORK!!!! (but this came closest to succeeding)
Feeling very guilty we decided the only way forward was disposables. but *she whispers* they do work.

good luck, but dont feel bad if you decide to go down the disposable option for nights. remember. by using cloth in the day you are still making a significant environmental impact smile

I have to say I used Cotton Bottoms for a very short time as I found them REALLY bad!!! DD was wet through all the time and she even wee'd through them onto the floor :o  I changed to terry squares (Little Ewes) with Motherease wraps at first and they were great and she was never wet.  Cotton Bottoms are really bulky too so the Ewes were not even that bulky.

Then I changed to Motherease Onesize and they are fabulous….all the absorbency withouit the bulk.  For nights I use a booster.

I do think Cotton Bottoms are very bad though…...

i would reccomend a tots bots with hemp booster, lots of whams made these. with a wool or fleese wrap. if you invest in a pair off wool longies you will not need the sleeping bag and can change to a blanket instead so there is nothing too tight or pressing on the nappy. Also you could try lying him on a sheepskin as again these allow and excess water to evaporate.

I use full time washables on my daughter but was half anf half with my son. If a dispoasle works for you then dont feel bad. With out cutting down his night time drinks it does sound like it is a problem that you will just have a find your way around.

Have you tried putting 2 nappies on, one on top of the other? You may need a bigger wrap, and he'll have a supersized bum, but it worked for me!

Hi. Thank you ever so much for your help.  I am going to buy some hemp liners when i can, the only nappy shop i know is 3 hours away from us!!
The little lamb nappies are fantastic, he is no more wet than disposables at night although deff need some liners and day time is great.

Will look into the wool wraps too.

Anyone know any nappy shops in derbyshire / sheffield? we go to a fantastic one in ipswich but is a bit far to go!!

Totsbots at night are great - I don't know how I forgot to mention them ::) They are really absorbent.  Glad your nappies are working better for you smile

are you using a poppered vest? If so it may be pressure wicking where the vest is pulling into the nappy?
Hope you get sorted. smile

I run a nappy laundry company and we use a similar system to Cotton Bottoms, for heavy wetters at night time we recommend the nappy, a cotton booster and if necessary a mother-ease rikki wrap.

I used cotton bottoms myself before setting up my company and I have to say I didn't find the wraps remained waterproof for very long.

Have you tried night time terry squares and pull on pants.  I used 'real nappies' 20 years ago for my boys and they were never wet or had nappy rash.  Make sure you get good quality ones and experiment with the way you fold them for example triple fold with 2 pins or kite with one.  I used junior joy and wraps for my daughter, girls wee different to boys so at night I used to use a larger wrap with a booster plus two nappies- result a big bum but dry through the night. Hope this might be of help.

Hi,
It's me again sorry! Just been looking back at previous discussions and seen something about wool wraps and shorties.  How do these work? would they be any good for my little one?

Does anyone know where i can get a pattern to make some?

thankyou

wool works as it is water resistant when treatment with lanolin. the pants or shorts or longies as they are known washes with wool wash then soaked over night with a teaspoon of lanolin, rinced the following moring and left to dry. I find this treatment lasts 4/5 weeks inbetween just air as nessacary. Wool also has natural anti bacterial properties.
As the wool breaths excess moisture is evaporated out over night/day bums can feel damp from the out side if the little one has been sat or lying in the same position for many hours. in my opinion they are more enviromentally friendly than the PUL wraps ( waterprrof wraps) and look so much better, they keep little one warm in winter and cool in summer. Also you only need a new size every 6 months or so as they last so much longer and bought cloths.
I LOVE wool !!!!
I can reccomend babylong legs sold via puddlepants and my favorite Natural knits for nippers, NKFN.co.uk cathie has a huge selection of wools to choose from. They really need to be knitted in the round so no seems. I can not knit at all !! so cant not reccomend a pattern would have no idea where to even start. Good luck
