Bulky nappies making baby sick after night feeds

My little one was born last Weds smile  I’m intending to use terry squares, but decided to start with muslin squares (she was only a petite 6lb 2oz).  I’m finding that because they’re so bulky, when I put her to bed the bulk lifts her bum up, almost lifting her upside down, and because I often want to go straight back to sleep after night feeds, I lay her down 10min after feeding and gravity brings the milk back up.  I’ve resorted to using the disposables I’ve been given by people, but would like to get back onto using reusables asap.  Anyone got any advice?  I’m planning on cutting the squares in half diagonally (usually the first fold I make) and hemming them to halve the bulk.

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter, hope you are enjoying getting to know one another.

With the nappies, cutting them sounds like a plan, but you will be surprised how quickly she grows, it may be worth just using disposables until she grows onto the muslins slightly.

how about using a booster pad inside a wrap?? might be less bulky< or if you are using washable wipes use them inside a wrap.

I think I have some pretty un-bulky shaped nappies you could borrow for a bit if that’s helpful - I found terries and mussies quite bulky in the early days, and Grace was over 9lb! Shout me if you’re interested in borrowing them - I will need them back in December, but I imagine your little girl will be out of them by then anyway.

If she is in a cot/moses basket then lifting the head of the cot up by putting old yellow pages/uni textbooks etc under the cot feet can help.

Otherwise, if in bed with you she can rest her head on your arm.

Seems so long ago I was using muslins on my DD!

Either raise the head end of the cot, or put a pillow underneath the cot mattress. That will raise her head end up.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Moses basket is currently propped up with catalogues.

Thanks so much for the offer Angie but I’ve decided to experiment with muslins cut diagonally into quarters and boosters.  And there’s a shop around the corner that sell eco disposables for back-up smile
