surprisingly we have some out of date eggs and wondered if we can still eat them. I am planning on making a cake today. We never have out of date eggs. I hate waste so quite happy to use them if they are ok.

Thank you.

I have used out of date eggs before…....one at a time into a glass first rather than straight into a cake! If they smell ok I use them, and they have always smelt ok and Ive never had any problems grin

Just to note though, we very rarely get upset stomachs and I dont have very little children and am not pregnant….

How out of date?  A couple of days and I would use them.  If any more than that, perhaps you could use them as an art project instead?  Blow the eggs and paint, or hard boil?

Actually it doesn’t say, just the name Harry. We bought them on Saturday and I am sure I remember getting them out of the carton with either that day or the day after on the box.

Eggs are fresh for three weeks from the date of laying. So these should be ok.  Perhaps just crack into a cup to check beforehand.  Also can put in a bowl of water before cracking.  If they float they are off, if they sink, they are ok.

Was going to say just this - I do this with all my eggs regardless of the date on them - just to make sure. I’ve eaten eggs WAAYY out of date before because they sink. x

We keep eggs from our inlaws for over 6 weeks sometimes and they are virtually all ok.

I just break them individually into a glass just in case.

If look and smell ok they are fine.

Yes I agree with the others - break them into a glass before you add them to the cake and if they smell OK they are fine to use.  I have used many out of date eggs X
