Hmm interesting… I have a few on the go, so tired when I finally get into bed I’m struggling. I have, The Irresistable Inheritance of Wilberforce, think thats what its called anyway, a book of poems called Flashes and Specks, beautiful poems, and a book called So I Kissed her Little Sister, again beautifully written. The last 2 are by a local author who used to run Creative Writing classes which I used to attend, truly wonderful. All Library books grin

I have a couple of library books by Miss Read.  They are simple country tales, reminiscences of a village headmistress.  I just needed a gentle light read, so got the library van to dig these up for me.  Also trying to snatch the odd chapter of Joel Salatin’s latest book, Folks this just ain’t funny.  Also Coast magazine.

I’ve just finished reading The Knitting Circle by Ann Hood. I kept seeing reviews for it and really wasn’t sure if I’d like it but kept being drawn to it and as I have an on-loan to me Kindle and it was only 99p a while ago I took the plunge and downloaded it. An interesting book involving knitting which I enjoy and friendships, and how all the characters came to knitting as a kind of therapy for something that happened in their life. I’ve always thought of knitting as therapeutic so was really drawn to the book.

Glad I did read it, although being a mother of a just 6 year old, I found some of it a “lump in the throat” read as the main character lost a daughter aged 5 (as did the author herself in real life). Brought a few tears to my eyes which a book has never done before to me, would recommend it but it may make you emotional.

Currently re-reading Walden on the kindle and am about half way through How to Be a Woman by Caitlin Moran in paperback. Amongst lots of other things I dip in and out of smile

I keep a few close by in case Im stuck. I think currently it is a book on Ayurveda, a book of collected writing by William Morris, Spiritual Midwifery (I cant remember a time when that hasnt been present actually, even more apt now since re reading it and there was a borth story of a lady who had an Anecelphalic baby like I did) a book on Chakras, a copy of the Mother, a fairy tale book I have to read to little one every night, and my journal

Jacqui, I love those Miss Read books grin .  If you’re in the mood for some calm, gentle reading, you might also like Elizabeth Taylor (not the actress:-)).

I’m reading _The Stranger’s Child_ by Allan Hollinghurst and also a big stack of William Trevor novels (right now it’s _The Children of Dynmouth_ which I am loving).

One day I will manage to make some time for reading again. At the moment all I read are children’s stories and my copy-editing course. I used to be an avid reader and I miss just getting lost in a novel…

Hmmm, I was hoping to really like it. I’m going to persevere and read it all but it’s not as good as I thought or even hoped it would be, based on some reviews I’d read. I’m falling on the side that she is over-rated/over-hyped by some.
Rather a lot of capital letters which I find unnecessary. Also sweeping generalisations about women which I just don’t agree with and certainly don’t fit into but she writes it as if it’s fact, not just her opinion. Finding it a bit patronising if I’m honest. Ok, so why am I continuing to read this I ask myself?

It probably says something that the only things that I connect with and recall after reading are memoirs of Wolverhampton which I have good memories of from my youth too wink

Seriously, when do you find the time to read?  I have a pile of books by my bed, and probably get to read a couple of pages a week!

Mama4 if you are enjoying ‘a short history of tractors’ I would recommend ‘we are all made of glue’ by the same author (can’t spell her name!) DH got it for my Christmas last year after I enjoyed the former and it was lovely.

Currently I am reading ‘natures cure’ after reading about it on here. Nearly finished and enjoying his descriptions and images. Taking a while to read as I pick it up too late and then fall asleep! Looking for something to read next so interested to see what others are reading grin
