This is the one and only book that helped me, more helpful as it has RH and LH instructions and I am left handed and wanted to learn LH LOL
It’s also the one my friend uses and she teaches crochet classes to individuals and groups

I found all the crochet for dummies, stitch ‘n bitch ones not so user friendly to learn with the American terminology, they are okay once you have the basics down and can understand the different terms.

This was the one that got me going - after 40 years of saying i couldn’t wink  it is a thin book, but just explains everything so well.  That and the odd youtube video, then the Attic24 blog tutorials, and you will be addicted. xxx

I love The Happy Hooker from the same author as Stitch and Bitch.
