I feel sure someone here will be able to help! This Sunday at church in the children’s club we’re having a winter festival mash up, with three tables for Yule, Christmas and Hannukah, I’m just wondering if anyone has any good ideas for a craft/activity for the Yule table? We did biscuitty things a couple of weeks ago, so preferably nothing edible! We have about 45 mins, so something that takes 10 mins or so would be great. My initial idea was to make solstice spirals, but just wondered if anyone has a better suggestion?

Thanks

Salt dough? If you made a batchand let it dry (it will air dry in 48 hours if you dont use the oven) you could take it along and let the children paint/decorate it? We’ve just made a load of sunbursts and stars (well I made them and then my 2 year old and cousins of similar age decorate them)

What about beeswax modelling? Or if you cant get hold of that this close to sunday how about plasticine? The children could make decorations out of that?

Finger knitting? (depending on childs age) You need some sturdy cotton but they could make solstice decorations and then attach them to their knitted piece.

Stained glass windows? Sugar paper and tissue paper…perfect for children of all ages and abilities.

Peg doll solstice fairies or angels? All you need is plain peg dolls and a variety of materials for children (of any age) (and glue!) to decorate in whichever way they fancy? (my daughter made about 5 yesterday and they look great)

Yule garlands? If youve got any old pine cones let them be covered in glitter etc to your hearts content, maybe dry some orange pieces in the oevn (on low) and bring them along, some cinnamon sticks, salt dough shapes and let the children string them up (we use just natural jute string, nothing fancy but hardwearing) and make some yule garlands to hang over windows etc?

Ummm….the Holly king gives way to the Oak king at the Midwinter solstice so could you get some images and print them out perhaps and let the children colour them? Or better still, make their own out of found greenery (though I appriciate that is a lot of work on your part trying to obtain greenery this time of year!)

Stones? If you found some decent sized stones in your garden the children could decorate them all christmassy or (older ones) could write messages on them? We have a dew around decorated by my girl truely and Ive written thngs like ‘Solstice blessings’ and some positive words like ‘compassion’ and ‘peace’ and we have them in a little dish on the season table.

Just a few ideas there, and all those things I have done over the past week or so with my 2 year old and a handful of others so they work out very easy to do! x

The peg fairies are a good idea. There is also painted plates, popcorn and cranberry baubles for the birds, Hand print angles/fairies.

Have fun

We’ve just been doing paper snowflakes today - and sprinkling with silver glitter. I know it’s really simple, but Grace has been loving it!

Oh Eilidh loved paper snowflakes too, she wouldn’t stop making them! Was at a craft fair recently where they had a table to make paper snowflakes and were putting them on a string to hang along the hall.
