Yes…I like japanese films mainly studio ghibli but found most of them too upsetting for my little senstive one. Kikis delivery service is ok and she can manage a little bit of the cat returns. Other than that…Lotte Reiniger?? (see my last post) Beautiful shadow films of fairy tales, not too dark I dont think and seems to be fine for my little one. x

There is a nice hungry caterpillar Dvd but its short, also things like Trumpton, Wombles etc, old childrens tv dvds are often really cheap on amazon.  We got the clangers and ivor the engine and Mr Benn at xmas and both kids love them and they are fun for me and DH as we remember them from our childhood!

Ratatouille is a good one, Wall-e is nice because there isn’t much dialogue, if they loved Mary Poppins they will love Bedknobs and Broomsticks - I love that my kids love old films like that smile

I try to insist on such films myself, my boyfriend thinks otherwise so it’s hard sometimes but between us there is some balance.

My kids love the old disney films - aristocats, Robin Hood, Alice in wonderland.  There’s mild peril in all of them I think but non that owrries me and I’m a stickler for banning htings I don’t feel are appropriate.  I am really into the Disney ones myself at the moment - they all contain some genuine romance and imagination it’s not all good vs evil as is often the way these days.

Much love x x x

“Hoppity goes to town” is absolutely lovely, it happened to be on Film4 once and my girls love it, so do I.  A 1940s cartoon film about a grasshopper and a bee, a musical too!

thanks for all the tips guys..i had wondered about bedknobs and broomsticks but i’ve never seen it so didnt really know what it was like..DS will be thrilled to see Cars..he sees all the stuff in the shop but i had presumed it would be on a par with most other Disney things. wildlife docs are a no-no..tried March of the Penguins, disaster when the mummy penguin got gobbled before she got back to her young! DD is incredibly perceptive and managed to read the full hidden meaning into everything..sometimes i wonder if we just shouldnt watch anything at all..story tapes are a nice idea..just wanted something to amuse dh and I too!!
I’ll have a look in the charity shops for the old Disneys too..I’m not familiar at all with japanese stuff, will investigate..
We happened upon Pollyanna this avo on tv and actually they quite liked that, apart from where she got run over!!
thanks again

Right, as promised I am sitting here with our collection of DVDs.  It’s not the best collection, but I’ll pick out anything I think may be OK.

I have reached the end.. sorry!  No good films Cars, skipping the combine bit.  We have Robin Hood, Mulan (both too violent really), and Charlotte’s Web (it starts with the piglet about to be slaughtered!).  I have seen lost and found and would recommend, sweet story and mostly gentle animation, although there is a scary scene when they are in the boat in stormy weather.

Gentle DVDs which are not films though include: Mr Men, Maisy Mouse (Hugo is scared of a couple of bits where the duck jumps out from behind bushes/from in a hole - but they’re not actually scary), The Koala Brothers, Tractor Ted and Spot the Dog.

just looked at lost and found on amazon..looks very sweet (others mention the strom scene!) just wondering, does the boy have to leave the penguin at the end?

have ordered Hoppity goes to town, rave reviews on amazon, so we’ll give it a go!
bizarrely the most favourite thing they like to watch at the moment is episodes Pippi Longstocking on you tube..in swedish!! something must go in as they beg for it! cant bear it myself as am ust frustarted by the language barrier!
