When I was in school I remember doing some really fun art that involved a tray of water, some oil? and some paint/dye of some sort. You sort of dipped the paper into the tray and got bubbley painty patterns.

Does anybody have a clue what I’m talking about???

We did something like this at a holiday club once - I think we added a little washing up liquid and blew into it with straws (to create the bubbles) then put the paper on top. Not sure if that’s any help? ( or very clear lol!)

With the description it’s more likely marbling inks as Lou mentions, you drop a few drops of the marbling inks in and swish in the water and drop the paper or card onto it and it’s all patterned and bubbles etc when you lift it off to dry. We have some and it’s fabulous fun - dd uses the cards and paper to make books.

Scola marbling inks are fabulous, the bottles last for ages - we’ve had a set for about 3 years now and there is loads left in them and they get used a lot.

We’ve done both, marbling with special inks, which is fun, but for a certain age group, bubble painting is considered hilarious.

Get a bowl, add a small layer of water, add some washing up liquid and some paint (need to play around with amounts to get a decent strong colour, but I’ve used both poster and watercolour paint), then take a straw and blow, then lay your paper on top of the coloured bubbles and then lift off.  Your child must be able to know only to blow, don’t want an unwanted suck (yuck).  The picture you get is of coloured circles overlapping, quite pretty and cheaper than marbling and with the fun of blowing bubbles smile
