I had a cold back in December time and it appears to be lingering - although it may well be more to do with being pregnant than anything else as it’s just a bit of a mucousy nose to be honest….BUT I’ve also had this cough since around November/December time and it’s driving me mad!

It’s not bad - far from it - but it’s there. It’s in my chest and it seems to just “catch” sometimes and makes me splutter. My DS had it from around October til January but seems to have lost it now thankfully. Wasn’t bad for him either - just annoying.

I notice it the most when I’m doing my breathing for either yoga or my natal hypnotherapy CD - deep breathing seems to aggrevate it - not good if I still have it during labour!!

Is there anything you can think of that might ease it? I’d rather not take anything medicinal if at all possible but think I might have to if it doesn’t go soon - don’t want to be spluttering throughout my birthing!

Can’t help with the cough I’m afraid, but I had the blocked nose throughout the second half of my pregnancy. It was horrible, but if it’s any consolation, it caused no trouble in labour, and completely disappeared after giving birth. It could be that the cough is a result of a “post-nasal drip”. I was prescribed Flixonase for my nose eventually, which did help a bit, but it is a steroid spray….

No advice, but just to say I am not pregnant and have had an awful cold and cough now for the last 2 weeks and it is driving me mad, so I know how you feel!  It is just kinda lingering in my head and the cough is just there as you said.

I am just about to have a bath with frankincense(to open my airways), bergamot (to help my immune system) and black pepper (to blast the aches away), I will let you if it works, but then again you can;t use those oils when pregnant so thats useless! Sorry!

Hi there,
do you use homeopathy at all? I see a homeopath but also self prescribe for minor ailments. I have used the remedy Phosphorus to clear up persistent chest issues and in worse cases Tuberculinum. You can get a nice kit from helios which would also have useful remedies in for birth (arnica, calendula etc) and it comes with a little booklet listing their uses.
I hope you are feeling better soon.

After many conversations with pharmescists and herbalist friends I’ve found the best thing for breaking up a really persistant cough is a simple Glycerin, honey and lemon lynctus from Boots - it’s only £1.80ish - very gentle but effective and reaonably natural.  It’s the only thing that cracked it for my little ones who’ve had coughs throughout the winter.  Might be worth a try - or if you can make some yourself perhaps?
