Hi
I broke my wrist a couple of weeks ago, which resulted in having to have an operation to put a plate in. The cast was taken off on Monday and now I just wear a splint which can be taken off so I can try and get some movement back. It is still quite bruised and swollen.  I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions that may help speed up recovery.
Many thanks
Helen

One of my boyfriends once broke his hand and he acquired some Boneset from his herbalist ... no idea if this is easy to get hold of from health food shops - would be worth a try as it really helped speed the recovery.

Hope it heals soon. x

Hi Helen,

That sounds painful!
Arnica is really useful to help reduce swelling and bruising. Weleda has a very good arnica ointment cream. You can find it in most health shops.

For the bone itself I should think that a good intake of calcium and magnesium rich foods would help.

Wish you a speedy recovery:-)

Good luck. I broke my wrist at the end of August through accidently diving headfirst out of an in-construction tree house we were building for the children.

It still aches now when it is cold but doing physio has helped - they gave me several exercises to do at home to help increase mobility & strength. Using warmth before the exercises helped, so I did them in front the fire, or after putting a wheat cushion on for a while. In a warm bath would be good too but we only have a shower.

I know I used arnica cream to help the bruising (I know this helps). And also had a homeopathic remedy from the health food shop that contained arnica & comfrey (not that I believe homeopathy works but I was willing to try anything!). I also took a good multivitamin & mineral supplement as was feeling run down from the pain & stress.

I did find a whisky before bed did help relax me to sleep better - I don’t normally drink much but it was that or the strong painkillers they had prescribed so choose the whisky!

Comfrey (“Knitbone”!)and Arnica - that’s what I would use too.

Thank you all for taking the trouble to reply.
I will be going down to the health store tomorrow to get what you have suggested.
Physio starts Wednesday so I am hoping that most of the swelling will have gone by then.
Thank you
Helen

When I broke a thumb years ago I used the remedies mention here already and to help with improved movement baoding balls (or chinese exercise balls).
