to feel sad about the prospect of giving up breastfeeding?

I have exclusively breastfed my 16 month old twins from birth - they are down to 1 feed a day at night now and i think they will want to give that up soon. I’m a bit sad! Have loved the intimacy of feeding them!

My youngest is only 5 1/2 months, and I’m already dreading it! :(

Yes it’s normal, i breastfed my twins until they were 1yr old. I really did not want to stop, but could not put up with the biting from both of them everytime they fed. I cried when i stopped feeding them, they did not seem bothered though. X

Hugs!  It could be some time yet, as they may hold on to that last feed for a while if you keep offering it.

I felt some sadness when I realised my twins had stopped breastfeeding, but also some relief, I must admit red face.  I was 3 months pregnant at the time and wondering about the logistics of feeding 3 children.  I know they wouldn’t have stopped if it wasn’t for the pregnancy, so I felt some guilt too and some still remains.  Then when I had my third baby, one of my twin sons did resume breastfeeding for a short time, which was healing for us both.  The other boy was horrified at the thought, as he had really moved on! LOL

Sometimes one twin might be happy to wean whereas the other shows an interest in continuing.
