Dh has asked if I would like something specific for Mother’s Day (he would need help getting a present any way) and gave me the idea of pattern book or sewing book so I can make more clothes for the kiddies.

I quite like the idea of a pattern book and a sewing know-how or encyclopedia type thing.

Any one have any recommendations or books they are longing after?

Thank you in advance,
sarie

Making Childrens Clothes by Emma Hardy is good, only 0-5 years though but I reckon some of them could easily be adapted for older, I used to borrow this from our library often.

Also love and have a copy of Sewing Clothes Kids Love by Nancy Langdon - some funky patterns and ideas, have used this often, patterns are 18mths to 12 yrs. Fantastic book - I think Amazon do the look insude so could offer you a peek of the kind of styles.

A non-recommendation would be Vintage Style for Kids - although it looks good, the patterns and instructions are not so good, I borrowed this from the library too but couldn’t get along with it at all - shame as some of the patterns are lovely.

You do need some knowledge of clothes making though.

I saw this today in Hobbycraft, looked great and a nice span of ages too, also nice tips for adjusting patterns which could be helpful smile  Thank you guys for confirming that one, it also compliments the Growing Up Sew Liberated book nicely grin

Any sewing bible type books people use?

Readers Digest Guide to Sewing is a good source of all things sewing, you can often pick up a copy in charity shops - I see them all the time smile

Have you got Growing Up Sew Liberated? Often wondered what it was like, mind you my dd is 6 now so probably not much for her age(?). I like Meg’s blog and have used a couple of her free patterns/tutorials before.

The patterns for clothes would be no good for your dd but the other patterns are amazing, art satchel, doll papouse, teepee, etc.  I like the general feel to the book aswell although it is generally aimed at younger children.

If you want a sewing bible type book you could try the UItimate Sewing bible by Marie Clayton.  I don’t actually have the book but I do have the Ultimate knitting bible which is in the same series and is excellent.  Perhaps you could see if you could borrow it from the library, to see what it is like?

Handmade Beginnings by Anna Maria Horner is so lovely, and Weekend Sewing is also brilliant. x
