Hi Guys,

I have recently been taking lessons in sewing as part of a skills swap but the lessons are few and far between due to time commitments with the children. It has taken me a while to get to the stage of threading my machine and sewing straight lines. I wonder if any of you learned people had any ideas where I may find some simple ideas/sites etc where I may be able to keep up momentum and actually make something as all I have made so far is a headband with a hand sewn rosette for my daughter.

I am sure someone will be able to point me in the right direction here! my house is littered with the ghosts of hobbies that never were and I would like this not to be one of them.

thanks in advance

xx

Here’s a trouser tutorial for you and the website is great, you can browse through or search at the top smile  Also you can do a similar thing with a dress or stretchy material and leggings, use it to make pj’s as well in lovely cotton.  So many possibilities!  Good luck and enjoy x

How about bean bags? Two squares, or a long rectangle folded in half, right sides together and sew three and a half sides with straight stitch allowing a good seam allowance, then practice your zig zag along the edge of the seams to give a really strong seam. Turn through, fill up with dried beans/peas/lentils/rice/etc (not too full), then hand sew the opening. Then you can always straight stitch on the machine very close to the edge on the right side to make the seam double secure. xx

Hi Guys

Thanks for some fabulous ideas, should be plenty to keep me going for a while. One of my freegle buddies is going to come and give me a whistle stop tour of my machine so with this and her visit I shall soon be getting started! May even open an Etsy shop with my other crafty bits too, though that is a future project!!

Ok, off to make lemon drizzle cake for tomorrows playdate

Thanks again…..and watch this space!

Xxx
