Hoping I could get a hand with concocting my own cleaner. I want a multi-purpose spray (preferably nice-smelling!) with antibacterial properties, safe to use on things like baby changing area, surfaces baby is going to eat off. Not sure where to start. What do you use? Lemon, lavender, tea tree? And once you’ve made them up, are they fine to keep until finished, they don’t ‘go off’?

When you say lemon, is this bottled lemon juice or do you use fresh lemon?
TeamCarr where do you get your Castile soap from? What sort of amounts do you make it up with?
Not being a gardener, had never heard of a plant mister….search has come up with a glass bottle thing with pump, is this what you mean?
Does washing up liquid not leave any streaks or stickiness? (come to think of it, I put a dash in a bucket with vinegar and water for floor cleaner and I guess it doesn’t!)

I use a spray bottle (old vinegar cleaner one) and i use 5 drops of each tea tree oil and lemon oil. smells so fresh and the lemony smell is great in bathrooms.
this is what i use for all surface cleaning. if you have a tub/box of bicarb handy you can make a cream cleaner by mixing water and bicarb till it forms a paste and then add a few drops of whatever essential oil that you fancy.
For the surfaces that i use for my baby i have another spray bottle that contains water with a teeny weany dash of eco w-up liquid and lavender essential oil- this is great for changing table, cleaning the bedrooms with just one spray on a microfiber cloth for damp dusting( great if a child has any allergies), also you can spray this into nappy pails and wet bags to freshen them up.

I meant essential oils for both lemon and lavender.
The plant misters I have are plastic bottles with a trigger spray on them , like the ones sprayable cleaning products come in. You could repurpose one from an Eco friendly range, say the Ecover glass cleaner… You can buy plant prays for 99p from a garden centre or pound shop.

Hello x I use essential oils too smile I got my spray bottle (plant mister) from homebase because every bottle I tried to reuse seemed to keep blocking up?!? No idea why?!? The liquid castille soap, made
from olives, is quite expensive but I found it cheapest on eBay… The ratio I use is a about a teaspoon to a cup of water… The ratio of oils I use is just keep putting in as many drops until I smells like I
want it to!x

Hope you’re having a nice weekend!x

Yup I use a cup of vinegar, filled up with water, a little soap and essential oils, sometimes teatree oil, and other times lemon and lavender.  I find it’s dried, the vinegar smells goes and leave behind the subtle scent of lemon and lavender.

i second what joxy said- once the vinegar dries the smell evaporates and leaves behind the smell of whatever essentials oil you have used. this is because acid evaporates and oil does not!

I use white vinegar (as it doesn’t smell as much as other vinegars) mixed with essential oils - mainly lemon or tea tree again. also use bicarb for some cleaning. Also use the vinegar and essential oils as a fabric conditioner (I use lemon for whites and tea tree for everything else).
