It’s becoming near impossible to change my 9 month old’s nappy without help! He wriggles onto his tummy and cries if I try to get him back on his back. I used to be able to give him a toy or something to look at to distract him for long enough to change the nappy, but this isn’t working anymore and the crying and wriggling begins almost immediately!!
Is this just a phase, any helpful hints to actually get a nappy on him much appreciated!!!

I just learned to change my babies nappy in whatever position they found comfy.  A favourite was with them standing looking out of the window, another was with them on all fours looking at a book or something like that.  Or I just left them nappy free for a while.  I never much minded cleaning up baby wee smile  And it was one less nappy to wash.  Obviously *that* only works if you are at home…...  Also if you are using super complicated nappies then think about switching to somehthing else.  I used the disana organic tie on nappy’s for about the first 6 months, then the wriggling set in and I switched to easier nappy changes for both our sakes (sell your previous ones and go for AIO’s maybe, like fuzzibunz etc?).  I am guessing you use cloth, even though you don’t specify as surely ‘sposies would be a doddle otherwise smile

Good luck!

Yes, my AIOs are poppers which take a while, and the rest are with a wrap over, terry squares and bamboozle ones ( which would be the easiest but trying to keep all the liners and boosters in place while he wriggles has become difficult!
Much of our house is carpeted, and we rent, or I might do more nappy-free!

it is a phase but quite a long one, just be very prepared and fast or like mentioned b4 easier when they are a bit older but change them standing up.You can also give them something to play with which is very distracting such as a kitchen utensil , spoon and yogurt pot, bottle with coloured water/ or pasta in, beads/cotten reels on a string, your phone, keys, necklace anything he normal doesn’t get to play with.
good luck and wishing you speed smile

Sarie taught me a really good position. on floor you sit with legs apart, bend one knee with foot placed flat on floor , baby goes under leg, artist leg so that it is not squashing baby but baby can’t run craw away.

also giving them something weighty and interesting helps and making sure every thing is right to hand

Change in the bath. Nowhere for them to run/crawl to, and if it takes a bit longer if doesn’t matter if they we’d before the nappy is on.

I too changed them in whatever position they were comfy with.  Once they were standing I always changed them standing up.  I had velco closures on most of my nappies which made them really easy.  Poppers are more difficult but not impossible.

We all have this problem at some point.  You’ve reminded me of a funny blog post a friend posted on facebook.  Will post link.  I learned to change a nappy with my elbow gentle preventing dd from getting anywhere.

DD’s like this.  She crawls away from me.  I had been using terry squares over night, I can’t now.  I also struggle with poppers, although last night she decided to pull the velcro up after I’d stuck it down!

I always changed mine on my knee - that pinned them down very successfully!
