Ds used to love doing problem solving, writing etc and I just want to encourage him and to help him along. I was wondering, especially the home educating people what you use for 5 year olds in all subjects especially numeracy as I know he enjoys that.

I went to WHSmiths today and found a book that look like he would enjoy and then when I got to the till it cost £20. :o And on Amazon there are loads. Can anyone also recommend computer games like reading eggs and again any numeracy ones.

Thank you

I have just bought some schofield and sims workbooks off their website for numeracy for my 5 year old. We officially home educate as of yesterday and are VERY excited. I chose them as they had been recommended by anther home educator and he loves numeracy. I bought them at school prices (available if you home educate, they just asked me to write home tutor on the booking for). I will let you know what I think but they have 2 pages to view from each book so I am happy that I know roughly what I am getting.

A friend of mine does mathletics on the computer with her daughter and loves it but my son would spend all day on the laptop so I am trying to find something different for now.

Hope this helps

My DD used to enjoy the Carol Vorderman “maths made easy” workbooks; I picked them up for a pound in the local library once, but I’ve seen them on amazon I think.

We went into The Works yesterday and picked up 6 workbooks for £6 (they had loads on at 2 for £2) - we got spelling, English, and maths, all for Key Stage 1, age 5-7, and we also 3 more books (not specifically workbooks but they have lots of facts and projects to do) on Dinosaurs, Vikings and Snakes, for my 5 year old son.  I’ll also second the Carol Vorderman Maths Made Easy books, our son gets on really well with those.  grin

Thank you, I will pop to the works next time I am in town. Yes, the CV books do look good and are on my list.

Foxy, how exciting for you and I hope it goes well for you both. I will have to have a chat with you about it sometime.

The Book People do some great work book bundles too - I was just looking at the preschool ones for Grace as she loves anything like that. It’s my new favourite website smile

Here’s the link for the 5-7yr old bundle - haven’t tried them, but they are cheap!

I hadn’t thought about The Book people. I have a code for free delivery if you spend £15

JUBIL33     Offer ends tomorrow.

Not workbooks but they have a great value Roald Dahl box set which we bought for T a couple of years ago and are producing the books one by one. We’re all enjoying them. With free delivery I think they are £16 for 15 books! I also usually buy a few bits as emergency birthday presents when they have a free delivery offer. I’m off to look now. Thanks.
