Just checking before I make a purchase, I have been looking for decent wax crayons (what is it with wax crayons nowadays?!) and pencil crayons (likewise!!) that give good colours and work with out having to press so hard on the paper that you either split the paper or break the implement.

Links much appreciated or shop recommendations smile

Lyra ferby pencils every time! we split a classroom pack from Baker Ross we a couple of other on here which worked out at £10 + p&p for 32 pencils. It’s a good deal if you can find a couple of people here interested - they are fabulous pencils, great pigment and lovely feel for little fingers. They do need a wide pencil sharpener, but they ate worth it!

I have to admit they are the pencil crayons I was looking at smile

Do you ten to use wax crayons as well or do the kiddies stick to these?

I will join you if you need an extra person.

Sarie, the boys love oil pastels. You can get cheap ones or children’s ones from art shops. I am sure I only paid a couple of pound for ours and the boys really do love them. The colours are really vivid.

Stockmar crayons are gorgeous! smile You can get the usual sticks and blocks. I also love “crayon rocks” and crayola twistables slick stix (oil pastels but in pen form for more control and less mess).

For pencils, I would love ferby but can’t justify yet as we have been donated lots of high quality water colour pencils. smile

I love these gorgeous chunky pencil crayons ...

really bright colours and water soluble so you can paint with them, and they wash of easily. Poppy has also taken to using them for face painting recently but I’m not sure that is advisable although they worked really well LOL

Grace uses crayons too - we have the stockmar blocks which are lovely, but don’t get used as much as the bog standard crayola ones we were given. I’m thinking of treating her to some stockmar sticks now she is a bit older.

These ones?  Do they get the edge for colouring in that a pencil shaped crayon would, dh was worried they would just turn into a smudgy mess and both pixies like colouring in smile

I know you don’t shop at tescos, however it is worth looking out for wooden chunky pencils, the ones I bought from tescos are lovely, and very vivid in the colours.  Pack of 12 was £1.50 too.
Berol pens, colouring pencils etc are usually very good quality too; and easily bought from places like WHSmith.

Oooh btw check out crafty crocodile online too, pretty much same stock range as Baker Ross, but sold in smaller quantities,  I haven’t checked, but they might do the pencils in smaller sizes?

Aside from Stockmar (I prefer blocks, find the sticks are brittle) I like Manley crayons, really intense colour softer texture than Stockmar (no eco credentials). Never tried to buy them here but packaging does look English.
