training pants - bright bots any good?

I’ve held off for a long while on getting training pants for DD2 but she just isn’t getting the concept of not weeing or pooing in her nappy, at 3. I know she will eventually in her own time, but I could really do with that time being sooner rather than later, with having DD3 in nappies too. I know lots of people suggest therun around with no clothes on method, but it’s just not practical when she doesn’t even tell me she’s done a wee (or worse poo), and I have a very active bottom shuffler who is bound to find the surprises before me! So I’m thinking about trying training pants, to help her realise what she is doing, and am looking for any recommendations, and advice? Has anyone tried bright bots? They seem very reasonably priced compared to others. Any thoughts? I’m getting a bit tired of having 2 in nappies, and as I can’t keep up with the washing for cloth, my finances are starting to get a bit tired of all the nappy costs too (let alone my conscience with the environmental impact!).

We have them for night time for DS who’s 4. They only catch a wee really, he’s done a couple of poos, didn’t ‘leak’ but the smell seemed to stay in the pants for several washes after, unlike a nappy.

I would think they would be good for toilet learning in the day time as your LO could probably pull them up and down OK. FWIW DS never told me if he needed to use the toilet, (we didn’t use training pants in the daytime just put him in pants once he asked and went with it) just pooed or wee-d where he stood! Only took him probably 2 or 3 misshaps though and he got to the loo in time after that! He was about 31/2.

Have fun! x

We tried bright bots and didn’t have a lot of luck with them. I would say that they are perfect for little ones who don’t quite make it in time - so are on their way to the potty and leak a few drops, but for us they never held a full toddler wee.

Thanks for your replies. Sounds like they might not be the right thing for DD2, since she doesn’t even tell me once she’s done something, so would probably overload them. Maybe I’ll be brave enough to try the nappy off approach outside once we’ve moved (and the sunshine comes back!). I have to remember she is only 3 and there are infinitely more exciting things to do than wee in a potty or on the toilet at that age!

We loved them for being more substantial than regular pants and for holding the odd leak but they’re definitely not what other people use pull-ups for (i.e. a child who is still unreliable and so needs full protection but wants the pull-down/-up option for going to the potty/loo).  I liked them for my legs-akimbo 2 year old DD who trained early but was still very much a toddler and so looked cute in a slightly padded bum!
