Hiya
I’m writing an article on Home Ed, from an adopters angle, for our LA adopters newsletter. I need a little ‘soundbite’ to describe very briefly Steiners philosophy/theory. I’m not very up on Steiner, most of what i know is gleaned from here. Is there anyone who has done a lot of his reading who can give me what are generally thought to be the most important parts of his theory?
thanks so much

holistic, kids work is play til seven, the fundemental interconnectedness of all things, pentagons are great, the natural world is a great teacher, kids need rhythm and consistency and to be centred on the home until age 7. Maybe best to leave out why he believed those things to be the case wink

I’d leave out the change of teeth thing, its a bit too nutty I think. I’d concentrate on kids playing til 7, safe secure predictable environment, natural play and materials, letting the child grow at their own rate. Something people seem to say a lot is that steiner education reminds them of old fashioned small village schools (without the lining up and reciting latin, I guess).

I think rhythm is a very important aspect too, daily, weekly and seasonally.

funny edith, i dont think the change of teeth thing is that nutty..and whenever i mention it to people they are really interested and often say they think it makes sense…
rhythm is definitely going to make it in as i feel its really really important for children who have had chaotic beginnings and need calm with a capital C..now thinking i also need a simple explanation/soundbite of rhythm as thats something else not understood..any ideas of a good sentence that covers it all?

How quickly do you need it? I could try & get back to you tomorrow with a suggestion for rhythm?

yeah but underlying the change of teeth thing is a belief that the change of teeth signifies full incarnation in the body. Basically, I think Steiner’s observations on kids were fairly sound (if you gloss over things like not breastfeeding past 6 months) but his rationale was pretty off the wall
