Anyone not have a carpet down and just have rugs or something?

My flat was flooded so I’ve had to get rid of all the carpets.  It’s a black asphalt floor.  Basically whatever I put down now is mine to keep, even though the flat is rented, but I don’t want a fitted carpet as I don’t know how long I’ll be here.  My friend’s bringing me some spare laminate for my kitchen and/or bathroom, depending how much there is.  The back bedroom is small so I could use someone’s old carpet in there.  I have a large study area though and a front room.  DD crawls around the front room so I might have to get a carpet down there.  I was thinking of getting cheap office reclaimed carpet tiles, then I could put a rug over them, but I don’t think DD would keep the rug on the floor.  Or is there a way to attach a rug to the carpet??  DD isn’t allowed to crawl round the study area though because she goes straight for my books or magazines, although I’ve had to throw them all out now!  I could get cheap carpet tiles for there, or I was even considering painting the floor and just getting a couple of rugs.

I just need something cheap, as I’m having to replace so much stuff!!

We used office carpet tiles in the hallway of our old flat - they were great - really hardwearing, and with the added bonus of having been stain-treated, so spills just bounced off!

The whole of the downstairs of our current house has hard floors, parquet in the lounge, flagstone in the large hall and Lino in the kitchen. We have a small rug in the lounge and that’s it. Dd3 is one and not walking. She bum shuffles and half crawls everywhere and having hard floor doesn’t seem to stop her. The rug we have is a thick heavy one so she can’t move it. It is colder though with nothing on the floor to trap the heat- great in summer but not so in winter.
Have you put a wanted/would like post in freecycle/freegle to help replace things (nit just carpet but everything). I would have thought given your situation you’d have a good response as there’s usually a good sense of community there. Good luck.
