i was reading ‘my naughty little sister’ to my 2 this morning and i came across something that tickled my fancy..and DD’s (who has a cold and wanted me to put it into motion immediately!) the naughty little sis was ill and the neighbour brought over a ‘Get Better Box’ which had been passed down a few generations..a box to be got out only when a child is ill to cheer them up. Inside the box were a series of smaller boxes, each with a little treasure/s in..some shells, pretty stones, tiny dolly etc etc.
it made me think of playing with my mums button box on a tray in bed when i was ill..and actually even now if i open that button tin i get teleported back to being a sick child in bed.
So i am thinking of making one..and am pondering on what to go in..have a few ideas but just wondered what you would put in yours if you were to make one?

Oh I LOVE those stories and I know exactly which one you are talking about. I also used to spend ages with my mum’s button box (which I have pinched recently to use her 30yr old buttons for craft things!) Hmmm…what would we put in it? I like the idea of pretty stone and shells as my two love things like that. And buttons too. I’m not being very original here am I!? I also remember fondly playing with my grandma’s jewellery box and her necklaces/earrings etc so I think I’d have to put some jewels of some sort in it.  A mini hand made teddy bear….some small pieces of material to be the teddy bear’s blanket/shawl etc.  Can’t think what else right now but will check on this thread as I think I want to make a box like this now (although my children are so rarely ill it will never be looked at! But I guess we could use it as a rainy day while caming box instead!)

A little story, handwritten and handbound, just a short little one, or maybe a special poem…

Extra-super-special colouring pencils and handbound drawing book to then date the picture and have as a keepsake?

skye-blu i had exactly the same thought as my kids arent ill v much either..but it will just make it EXTRA special when they see it as it wont be often! ooh yes teddy with its own blankie ...in its sick bed/box.. i like that!
mamapixie, i’m going to look out an appropriate poem..maybe about health… i also thought there ought to be a little log book to log down ‘enjoyers’ of the box..imagine 50 years time someone looking back at it as they sit in their sick bed…

Sounds like a wonderful idea, my son likes to play with old tension squares from my knitting projects, maybe something tactile like, knitting, a cork, wood etc?
