Hi All,
Emily is now 10months and was just wondering what everyone elses routines were for their 10 month old?
I know all children are different but it would be really helpful to get an idea of what everyone else does and some thoughts on a book I love.  My son who is now nearly 8 years old was not interested in food at all so I cant fall back on previous experience for when he was that age :s
With Emily I have tried baby led and to great success she will eat almost anything we do.
She has 3 bottles mid morn, afternoon and mid evening.
She sleeps through no problems as she has from birth, so no concerns just wondering what everybody else is doing!

Why I hear you ask? Well,  I have a vegetarian book by Carol Timperley (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Baby-And-Child-Vegetarian-Recipes/dp/0091853001/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1341926482&sr=8-3) I more than love the book, yummy recipes that the whole family will eat.  However I have noticed it has a suggested routine/outline and they appear to list 4 meals a day with an awful lot of food???  I dont think I could even manage that amount let along a 10 month old!

For example nine to 12 months day 1:
brekkie is weetabix, milk, banana,
milk mid morning,
lunch pasta with 3 pepper sauce and fromage frais for pud
afternoon milk feed
Tea veg crumble with mixed fruit compote and custard
Supper pumpkin and apple soup sesame breadsticks and oat cookies
Bedtime: milk

Is it me or is that a lot of food???? I would really appreciate your thoughts please and hear what everyone else does!

Thank you
xx

My 10 month old is a good eater, an avid breastfeeder but would no way eat that much food in a day!

I have that book now, and my son wouldn’t eat that much either, and even less during teething. I think he is cutting a tooth now and has consequently eaten very little in solids this week. He does this with every teething episode. Today he has eaten maybe half of a normal portion of porridge, only 4 or 5 spoonfuls of a mild curry puree for lunch, and a bit of yoghurt. He is not good with any texture and lumps in the food (even more so when teething), so I still puree most things so it’s not lumpy or dry, though occasionally he will eat things added like rice or pasta stars, and isn’t very good with finger foods either - whole bits of fruit and veg etc). Yesterday he coughed on a bit of pear, threw the rest away, that’s where we’re at with finger foods! However he is well covered and tall for his age, despite seemingly not eating much.

I still offer quite frequent breastfeeds alongside giving him water in a beaker. He is generally feeding early in the morning in bed before waking up fully, so I guess he has a morning feed, a mid-morning one after breakfast before his first nap. Next feed I guess is before his afternoon nap or maybe inbetween if he seems to want one (clinging to my legs or headbutting my breasts while in the sling are usually good indicators!). Then a breastfeed before bed when I settle him. Though he has definitely developed a pattern with naps and feeds, I am not very rigid with it, and tend to do everything by his cues. I just have a loose time frame for everything being done by I guess.
He will have about 1.5 hour nap around 9 or 10am, and another about 1.5 hour at around 3pm. (THis week!) he goes to bed at 9pm and waking up around half 6, 7, with a couple of stirrings in the night for a quick feed without waking fully. Last week he was crashing at 8pm and waking at 5…

My babies would eat that variety and that number of meals, but when it says “pasta with sauce” that would be perhaps ten bits of pasta, not a full bowl!  Just remember that portion sizes are pretty variable, and offer what you think will be eaten - seconds are always an option, especially if you’re making plenty of snack-y things that you can pull out whenever.  Really, nutrition isn’t the point at ten months, food is sensory play, so don’t stress if nothing at all seems to be eaten sometimes.

wow that is a lot! Roo is almost 12 months, but is still an absolute boobie monster lol.
She eats three meals a day - I say eats, tastes, nibbles, squishes, feeds her feet and eats a bit kind of eats. We make sure we have breakfast, lunch and dinner, but has small portions of everything. If your little one is happy and experimenting then she sounds fine to me smile
