Well, we have gotten to the bottom of Fin being under the weather. The poor little mite has hand, foot and mouth. He is completely wiped out with it, sores all in his mouth, some on his bottom, he has basically slept since Friday night. I think I may have given it to him (I was covered in spots all over my hands and foot, across my lower back and on my leg), but I had assumed I had an allergic reaction to something. Lewis has had a few spots round his mouth, but is otherwise fine, and hubby had what he thought was an ulcer. I feel terrible for making him poorly :( :(  I am really struggling with getting him to drink though, so I am going to try some frozen lollies today to see if he copes better with that. I really hate seeing him so sleepy and pale, I always get worried about sleeping so much, but sleep means his little body id fighting the illness, right?

What else can I do for him?

Sorry I have no advice. Both of mine have had it and it is miserable to watch, so I know how you feel. F was still feeding when she had it and wanted to feed all the time but stopped as soon as she tried it. I hope Fin feels better soon and the lollies help. I know that fruit juice hurt F’s mouth so perhaps weak fruit squash lollies might be better than fruit juice, or milk lollies?

It sounds like you;re doing all the right things honey. The ice lolies are a great idea. You could freeze all sorts to see what he prefers: fromage frais sticks, cucumber slices (lots of water in those). I know honey is antiseptic; would that be good to give him?

I would say sleep is good, as this is when healing takes place. But when you feel unsure, when you feel he is too drowsy, why not take him round the drs to have him checked out. At the end of the day, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Don’t beat yourself up over making him ill honey, for all you know he may have been the one that’s picked it up from someone else and he’s had it in the system for a while while you came out with it first. You just don’t know. These things happen, that’s the way with viruses. You can’t escape them and while it’s hard to see your little one in pain and uncomfortable, at the end of the day they are what make the immune system stronger as it learns how to fight off other nasties. Use all your energy for doing whatever makes him more comfortable, for keeping cheerful and loving, and he’ll soon be better.

Thinking of you! Love, Sunshinexxx
