Hi, I’ve just written a blog post with a vague recipe in it…what are the rules on posting links to blogs?

If the recipe is available for free on a blog, it is ALWAYS worth having a link to the original blog post, and if you want to be extra polite, commenting on the original with a link to yours.

If it’s a recipe that’s in a book, it’s a little more difficult. You could say that the recipe is in such-and-such a book and link to it on Amazon, or maybe get round it by posting your *own* adapted version of the recipe (how you did it differently).

I don’t suppose that is ‘policed’ very stringently’ but as with most things, better to be polite! :D

If I was using a recipe from another blog, then I would link to it and leave a comment for the originator to let them know. From a book or recipe website, then I would link to the site, or to The Amazon book page and include my own adaptations and observations.

It’s sort of my own recipe - in that it was passed on from a friend and adapted. I’m sure it had a beginning somewhere else…as all things do

Here’s the link: Lammas bread http://themuckyroot.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/on-bread.html?showComment=1343974163585

Hello by the way Barefoot Crofter - you were the first “stranger” to comment on my blog! I’ve only just joined this forum…

P.S. Are there general rules about posting links from your blog?

Your personal blog?  On the forum?  smile

There won’t be any issue if you’re not making money from it.  If it’s relating to a business I think it’s OK to post once and then only if someone is asking (ie if someone asked, “does anyone make Y” and you do, or if someone is asking for gift suggestions, or who has a shop, etc).

If it’s a personal blog, I don’t think there are guidelines.  It would be fine to share if you posted something we might be interested in.  smile  Some folks share their link fairly often, some don’t ever promote themselves for any reason and leave their link in their signature only.  smile  It’s a personal thing, and also depends mainly on the purpose of your blog.  smile

Hi Selina -  nice to see you here -  it is a lovely blog - and your lammas bread recipe looks great and totally yours. I don’t think you need to worry about linking it to a long ago origin.
I just have my link in the signature, and people can click or not, but some bloggers post here if they have a special thing going on - a giveaway or whatever.

BTW you don’t have a follow feature on your blog…....x

Thanks for the help folks.

I’ll definitely need to check out why there’s no follow function - slightly alarmed by that!
