Help! We have bum genius amoung others and the older ones of the pile, the insides are as stiff and wrinkled up as is possible!! They are so hard i can barely use them as they make the nappies leak as they don’t fit properly :(

I know i’ve heard about ‘stripping’ them with white vinegar? Does anyone know where to buy it and what the deal is with stripping? I only ever use the tiniest amount of powder to wash them and often do an extra rinse, but nothing seems to make a difference. The newer ones of the bunch (the few more i bought when DD was born 2 years ago) are still soft but scared they will end up rubbish to!

Anyone any knowledge please?

TIA smile

Hello love, should be able to get white vinegar in any supermarket
Stripping, isn’t that a vinegar soak, good few capfuls diluted in bucket of water then a wash in the machine with no powder/liquid
Hope that helps x

Not the eco friendly choice but do you know anyone with a tumble dryer who would put them through for you with a couple of tennis balls in there? That should help get the fabric fluffy again. I have the same issue with my washable pads; they are like cardboard. My darling husband sits there moudling and pummelling the fabric with his hands to soften them for me!

Strip them!

LOTS of white vinegar! We put the nappies into a tub, cover with half water/half white vinegar, soak overnight, rinse them in the sink, then put them on to rinse in your machine with a bit of bicarb thrown in (4/5 big heaped tablespoons).

Then, put in put them in the hottest wash our machine does (which, on balance is not too bad for us, as we use 30* for everything else, it’s only hotter for this nappy stripping), with some more bicarb.

When the cycle is finished, put them through another rinse to with bicarb to get rid of any smell of vinegar.

This always works for us, and we have very soft nappies and inserts! x

Soda crystals and bicarb are not the same thing.  Soda crystals are sodium carbonate, bicarb is sodium bicarbonate.
