Mmm I can almost smell it!! My most favourite of the seasons!! Usually I’d be cooking a lot of warm curries, chillis and stews right about now but I’m having serious trouble with heartburn issues and anything spicy or garlicy (which is most of the food I cook!) Seems to make it reaaly bad. Has anyone got any ideas what warm cosy pot dinners I can cook that won’t induce the burn!?

We have a garlic allergy in the family, so we always cook without garlic. I went to one of Nigella Lawson’s book signing several years ago, and she suggested frying finely chopped black olives instead of garlic. We never tried it as not fans of olives either, but it might be worth a try!

If you aren’t vegan how about more creamy things?  My friend made a nice butternut squash soup with creme fraiche stirred in, cauliflower cheese is always a fave with baked potatoes

Stew and dumplings are a favourite here.Infact DD was just asking this morning when winter was on its way so that we can have it again grin
Also I often make curries without the chilli as the little ones wont eat really hot things so maybe thats an option.
dont envy you the heart burn.!Ihad it really bad at the end of my pregnancies. Its horrid. But will all be over soon grin

What about risotto? I find that great seasonal comfort food, especially with sweet potato or butternut squash in. Or, maybe not one pot, but we had a great mushroom stroganoff last night- no spi e there and could miss out the garlic. Can you use mustard to flavour or does that have the same effect?

brilliant idea!! Cauliflower cheese is my favourite, why didn’t I think of that! Thank you!! Mustard sadly has the same effect which is a shame as mustard in cauli cheese is delicious! I’m going to do a brothy veg stew thing tonight as I can make that pretty ‘bland’ and just vegetably rather than spicy. I could just add more cream/yogurt into things like curries though its hard not to put all the spice in! I’m so use to doing it and my dd eats every spicy food happily! I can’t live on porridge forever! (Though 3 weeks isn’t really forever I guess!!!) Thank you lovelies x

How about a root veg stew, topped with a scone like crust, like a cobbler?  One of my favourite chuck in the oven and leave it recipes.  And maybe apple crumble for afters?  I love autumn too, it always feels like a good time to start something new.

that sounds delicious- how do you make the topping? Yes I love autumn too and with it being just over 2 weeks until this babe is due I want to get a good stash of autumnal food lined up for cosy evenings in!

I can’t think of any off hand but has inspired me to write a list that I can look up on those days I can’t think of anything.
