Starting to use vinegar to clean with - malt vinegar is 20p for 1/2 lt and White is £1 for the same amount. What’s the benefit of White vinegar over malt…?

Malt can leave residue.  It’s been fine for us for cleaning windows and mirrors though, I just wouldn’t use it as a final rinse in the washing machine like I do white vinegar.  xx

So it’s ok on glass? We’ve been cleaning/disinfecting our seaglass with vinegar and bicarb - we give it a really good wash again afterwards. Think I might try the cheap malt! smile

I used pickling vinegar for dyeing recently when I ran out of my usual acid mordant…  I couldn’t find any other white vinegar in the shop I was in and figured it would just make the silks smell slightly different til I washed them!

I use 50/50 cheap malt vinegar & water in a spray for cleaning the bathroom sink & mirror. It’s great. It cleans the mirror really well. So long as you wipe it off quickly it doesn’t seem to leave residue, though if you let it dry it will.

I think I am really silly but what is white vinegar? is it just the clear stuff rather than the brown stuff? Stupid question but I really dont know!

It is a distilled vinegar and is actually clear rather than white.  We have just bought a whole load of 5l bottles of it on the net.
