Ok, I'm Pippa.  I lived with my DH in South Lincolnshire (near Spalding) but are hoping to move towards Boston next year sometime.  We have five children, three girls aged 10, 4 and 6 months and two boys aged 9 and 7.  They are all home educated.

I am a SAHM, but I help DH out with his job admin from time to time.  My hobbies when I get a chance are - gardening ( I LOVE gardening but have really run out of room in our very small garden), painting and drawing (mainly horses and birds), writing (haven't done much of this of late, but I like writing short stories when I have a chance), sewing (am VERY novicey, but am itching to get better), knitting (only really started this year and am already hooked), tracing family tree (another thing that has been put on the back-burner since having Minnie, but something I love doing), reading, I used to ride horses a lot, but after a bad fall which kept me out of the saddle for ages and then having children, I've never really got back into it, but one day I'd like to. I love watching wildlife, going on long walks, picking up pine cones and cluttering the house with them for months afterwards.  I play the piano (rather badly) Dislikes - crowded shops, supermarkets and door-to-door-salesmen (far too many round here!!)

I would love to keep chickens and learn beekeeping - hopefully when we move house!!  I think that pretty well sums me up!   ;D

I'm Carly, 29, married to Ben for the last 5 years (this month…10 years together - we got married on our 5th 'anniversary' - saves remembering two dates lol). We have a son, Henry, who's just over a year old, (and who co-sleeps, breastfeeds and hangs out in his sling when we're out and about) two dogs and a cockatiel.

We would love a small holding with goats, pigs, chickens and ducks…who knows what the future holds eh. We've lived in East Devon for the past two years, but we grew up in Surrey/Hampshire borders.

I work from home and look after Henry, and Ben works p/t on a local organic farm, and looks after Henry too so I can get some work done occasionally lol wink
Looking forward to being more forward thinking in the coming year in terms of foraging and veg growing…we have a share in an allotment, a garden (although as we rent we mainly grow in pots here) and a greenhouse, and are lucky that there are rich wild pickings about down here. We have a plan (dream might be more accurate lol) of a calender dedicated to preparing for the upcoming harvesting seasons…whether this happens will be another thing  ;D

I love to play with my little one, knit (not that good but learning more and more), read, sing & listen to music, learn new crafts, walk with the family, watch comedy, and waste time on t'internet.

As there are no Steiner type playgroups or schools locally I'm not sure what to do as Henry gets bigger…perhaps I'll look into starting something myself, if I get the nerve!!

I love this site for the ideas it gives me for each season, and as it's somewhere that I can come and feel, well, normal, lol…thanks to you all smile

Think that's it. Great idea to put this thread up by the way smile

Hi everyone, I have just left a response on a thread somewhere on here and thought it a bit rude of me not to have introduced myself first, so here goes!

I'm Natalie, I have four daughters 12, 10, 7 & 3 and live in North Yorkshire. DD1 has just started at the local secondary, DDs 2 & 3 are both at the local primary and DD4 attends playgroup four mornings a week. Despite their mainstream schooling we have always led quite a natural and Waldorf inspired homelife and in another life I probably would have homeschooled them but DH and I have very different opinions on this so it's never been an option! I bought the very first issue of Green Parent magazine way back when and subscibed for a couple of years because I found it such a refreshing change from all the mainstream parenting mags! I haven't re-subscribed for about year so I got on the website to do that and found this forum!

I'm hoping this forum will help me get back on my "alternative" feet as I have recently found myself on a bit of a "mainstream" binge! (should have kept up my GP subscription, lol) I don't really have any like minded friends local to me so it's nice to have stumbled across a whole community of Green peeps online!

Nice to meet you all! smile

Hi,

I only found this forum last week (although I'm an avid GP magazine reader!!) and I am absolutely thrilled to have found such a huge bunch of like-minded people  smile I recognise quite a few of you from another forum I post on (Becks, Arwen, Gina, Willow, Sparky, Joxy - I'm 'Jamie'), and I already regularly read a couple of your blogs!!

My real name is Nina and I'm a WAHM (Registered Childminder) to two small boys. DS1 is nearly 4yrs old and DS2 is just 14 months. We're a tandem-feeding, co-sleeping, gentle parenting family who love spending a great deal of time in the great outdoors, kicking leaves and getting muddy smile

I do write a blog, inspired by Becks, Sarah and Gina, but I haven't updated it in a week or so, so I'll post a link when I've had time to do it.

Nice to 'meet' you all!

Nina

Hello  wink, I'm Rachel, married for three and a bit years to Ian, and we have a son Jake who is just 2 with another one on the way in Feb 09. I am a stay at home mum and I work hard to be as AP as I can. I breastfed J for just over 2 years till he self weaned (due to pregnancy), we used to co-sleep (he is mostly in his own room now) and I have a nice rounded collection of slings. I am Currently working really hard at becoming a better and fairer parent when it comes to discipline - I hate to shout but sometimes….. ::)

We live in the Forest of Dean, surrounded by beautiful trees, and we all love it here. This time of year is so nice with long woodland walks to collect fallen leaves and conkers.

Ian is the manager of an outdoor eduction and field studies centre and we both love the outdoors life, tho we have done less since Jake was born. We used to Cave, Climb, Canoe, Kayak and Paraglide amoungst other things. We still get out canoeing regularly with Jake and love to cycle and walk as a family. I think we will go back to doing more and more as our children grow to an age where it is both practically possible and safe to do adventurous activities with them in the outdoors.

Well I guess thats me in a nutshell  wink

I'm not sure how I've managed to miss this so far???

I'm Izzi, 18 and mummy to Toby who is 17months today. We are a breastfeeding, cosleeping, cloth bumming, sling wearing family (even Toby owns one to carry his Paddington bear around town). I was a single mummy until I met my wonderful partner Bryan, who is 22. It is our 1 year anniversary at the end of October.

I live in the West Midlands, with my Mum sister niece and brother, but I have a 'second home' with DP's house, where we spend a lot of time.

We do lots of arty crafty stuff and I am trying to teach Toby to respect the planet. He already knows to turn off the lights when we leave a room.

Now that Toby is slowly gaining independance, I am redeveloping a few interests of my own. I'm rather enjoying toy making of various kinds. Dolls are fun to make and there are various knitted oddments (mostly mice) accumulating in Toby's toy box. Our season table is my pride and joy and I usually have some project or other on the go for it. I'm planning to make scarves for the winter. I'm becomming involved in a breastfeeding buddy scheme to encourage breastfeeding among younger mums, and am also demonstrating slings and cloth nappies to the Under 16s young mums group. Baking is becomming a bit of a habit, with gingerbread being my speciality.

I should probably mention that I'm disabled (I dont think I've brought it up on the board yet). I have M.E. which is annoying to say the least, and I often pay dearly for over doing it with the craft projects/physical play but seeing T's face is worth it. I have a lot of help off my mum, who I think is my guardian angel.

Hi, I am another Rachel (and another Arwen too - serious LOTR addict!!) and I'm 36.

I currently live overseas and have done for five years or so, we've been fairly nomadic though throughout our ten year marriage!! We are hoping to return to the UK very soon though. We have three children currently, one who is 8 another 6 and the youngest is nearly 4, number four is a current work in process.

We try to live as greenly (is that a word ;D) as possible. We have co slept, I breasfed (albeit not without difficulties and finally a triumph!), we grow our own, make our own, recycle and freecycle wherever we can.

My kids attend a wonderful, organic Montessori school and we love the Montessori philosophy - to the point that I am a real bore about it lol! I hope to do the training one day as I'd love to see it more readily available as an alternative education, particularly for year three and upwards to secondary age.

We aren't sure what our plans will be with regards to education when we return to the UK, but homeeducating is a very real possiblity if we don't feel the local schools or the curriculum suit one or more of the children.

I suppose i am a SAHM, but I am a doula and childbirth teacher and have my own business here. I have attended many many births now and love what I do - it is a pretty cool job to be present at all these births and to talk earthy birthy stuff with couples on a daily basis lol! I have also worked in a Waldorf school as a parent/toddler teacher in the past and in regular school as a regular primary teacher too.

I also knit, sew and felt and I love to cook.

Anyway - hope to enjoy getting involved over here!
