There have been a few of these on other threads, and I certainly don't know the answer- what do you do/ think-

soapnuts (flown half-way across the world) or washing liquid?

in Europe- local or organic ?

from out of Europe- fair-traid or organic ?

recycled paper or "from well managed forrests"? (growing trees take in more CO[sub]2[/sub] than old woodland, and if there is still demand for woodland will that stop developers building on it?)

a new-build "eco" house on green-field site or old house?

for current affairs/news -TV (electricity) or newspaper (manufacture/ transport/ printing)?

"eco" cleaners or tea tree (flown in from Australia)?

just to get you thinking…

OMG - you're blowing my brain cell up  ;D

Hmmm, maybe nothing in the machine for the most of the time and a little washing liquid for soiled stuff

In Europe - local seems to be becoming more important to me now.

From out of Europe - fairtrade. Again this is a change over the past 6 months or so. I always used to put organic first.

recycled paper

eco-ing up an old house I guess

current affairs and news - internet

home made cleaners

great stuff and I coule probably create artguments for everyside of everything you have written, but I wrote about what I am doing / would do at the moment smile

What we do is:

In Europe: local is more important than organic
Outside Europe: Fair Trade is more important than organic
(although obviously in both cases I would rather both!)
Recycled paper
We live in a brand new house which is quite eco friendly
Internet and TV for news, although I do enjoy a paper at the weekends (it is reused and/or recycled though!)
Eco cleaners, but I do use tea tree in my nappy bucket

I vary a bit, but in general this is what we do:

Ecover washing liquid sometimes and washball on others, have gone off soapnuts as they made washing smell musty.

Local produce wherever possible - free range chicken and always, always, British meat.

Recycled paper

Old houses save on land and materials, but new houses should be made with solar panels and rainwater harvesting now.

Current affairs - internet, then I don't have to read anything horrible that I can't do anything about and no rubbish on celebrities!!

Eco-cleaners

It's an intersting subject, but you've taxed my little brain too much now ................

soapnuts (flown half-way across the world) or washing liquid? Ecover Washing Liquid, anD at 30oc. Line-Drying where possible, however we've had such bad weather its been the dryer or airing cupboard… mostly aring cupboard, but drying thing we need straight away, such as dressing gowns and pants.

in Europe- local or organic ? Local - we're lucky enough to have a famrers market and 'eco' shop in town so most theat comes from local sources is organic, if you look.

from out of Europe- fair-traid or organic ? Fairtrade

recycled paper or "from well managed forrests"? (growing trees take in more CO2 than old woodland, and if there is still demand for woodland will that stop developers building on it?) Recycled paper, I like the idea of writing on something that has history.. hopeless romantic  ::)

a new-build "eco" house on green-field site or old house? Old house. Again with the romance.

for current affairs/news -TV (electricity) or newspaper (manufacture/ transport/ printing)? Internet.

"eco" cleaners or tea tree (flown in from Australia)?
Eco cleaners, and home made recipies. (using a WEN leaflet, and other forums and trading with mates.)

soapnuts (flown half-way across the world) or washing liquid? bio-d liquid usually at 30 c except for nappies at 60 c (tried them at 40, no joy)

in Europe- local or organic ? Local - from our farmers market. we had a christmas dinner last year that was all locally sourced except for the gravy browning!

from out of Europe- fair-traid or organic ? organic.

recycled paper or "from well managed forrests"? (growing trees take in more CO2 than old woodland, and if there is still demand for woodland will that stop developers building on it?) Recycled paper. you get some really funky recycled products smile

a new-build "eco" house on green-field site or old house? probably old house (she says, even though she is in the process of buying a new build house)

for current affairs/news -TV (electricity) or newspaper (manufacture/ transport/ printing)? both. i love the bbc news, but the independent is great for environmental news (and has a great crossword wink )

"eco" cleaners or tea tree (flown in from Australia)? bit of both.

here is another one:

out shopping today, i wanted to buy bananas - these were my choices: fairtrade, organic bananas, wrapped in cellophane (waste, landfill, non-recyclable), or non organic, non fairtrade, loose bananas. no waste, but probably sprayed lots.
But, you dont eat the outside of a banana, you peel it! so are organic ones really better?

ecomum- bananas- I leave this choice up to my DD- she usually opts for fairtraid- "because it makes the farmers happy", and I re-use the bag for my DH's work pack-lunches at least twice before throwing away….not easy is it :-\
