Hello all.
I am currently a SAHM of two daughters 5 and 3. We just moved to the Exeter area from America. I left behind many friends and i am looking to make contact with some local moms in the area.
Right now i am trying to figure out WHAT my 3yo has come down with, she seems to have a really nasty cold and i am completely at a loss as how to treat her here. The medicines in the shops are all really confusing to me, i dont know where to buy homeopathics or what doctors are good with kids.
I’ll just tell you quickly that My kids and i come from the natural parenting/ strong AP side, but i enjoy friends of all opinions. I am 34, engaged to be married, and hope to continue my education once we are settled here. My children were previously homeschooled, but i intend on putting them in schools here.
Thanks for reading and looking forward to getting to know you! :D

Hi starcaster!
I’m not in Exeter I’m afraid (Ireland actually), but I was at a wedding in Exeter last year and I thought it seemed like a lovely place (particularly surrounding countryside).
Hope your LO gets better soon and that you find what you’re looking for locally.
Welcome to GP and Good Luck in your new home smile

Welcome both to England and the site smile

As for doctors it is a case of registering with a GP surgery and you may be assigned a doctor, but mostly you see whoever has free appointments, unless you specify a doctor.  Bit hit and miss I’m afraid, particularly as you have to be in the catchement area of the GP Surgery to join.  Although it does reather depend where you are and what is available etc.

Holland and Barrat and other Health Shops will sell homepathetic remedies, and as Arwen_tia said, Boots too.

Oh cool, thanks for the replies!! :D
um…......so i just ‘get’ a doctor then? gah, i am just going to hope they are just better here in general. It took me years to find the best baby dr in michigan where i am from. :(
Thats ok, my kids are really healty and we rarely go. Its just nice when you KNOW your dr wont intervene unless your kid is in real danger ya know?
anyway, i’ll have a look around and see what i can find. Any suggestions other than what meager BM i have left for her eye?? i dont like the look of it….
Thanks again for all the warm welcomes and suggestions:D

Hello grin I’m in the Exeter area too!

Pop into Neal’s Yard in the city centre (it’s just up from the main post office, opposite debenhams) and have a word with the homeopath in there - he’s fantastic (and his wife works there and is lovely too!) and really helpful. That would be a good place to start.

There are different surgeries depending on where you live but most have a few doctors - I asked to be registered with a paediatrician when I moved here with my daughter 6 years ago and that wasn’t a problem.

Pm me if you’d like any local info (though I can’t guarantee I’ll be any use!!) - it’s lovely to have someone new from this area! Oh and welcome to the board, it’s fantastic grin

hello,

I hope you’re settling into Exeter now. I went to University and stayed in Exeter nearly six years, it was a lovely time in a great place. I hope your little girl’s eye has cleared up now.
