Lets see if we live up to our "Earth Mama" stereotypes. What have you named your little ones & Why. How many "Hippe" names do we have then?
I have Iola Eden & Loki. I was working in a crystal shop when i was pg & wanted a crystal like name. There is a crystal called Iolite, so that was where I got that from… turns out that it is a town in america, is greek for "violet cloud at dawn", & she was hurcules girlfriend in greek mythology.
Loki was a demi-god in norse mythology. He was the trickster, the God of Chaos & mischief. I was re-reading Neil Gaimans "American Gods" during my 2nd pgcy. (1st read it while pg with Iola) Loki was a charachter in the book.
those are both really lovely names, i especially like Loki, we didnt come up with anything quite so unusual i'm afraid! I have two boys Ellis and Ciaran, Ellis is the eldest (he's six) and that was the only boys name i could settle on, had lists of girls! but when i had a second boy Ciaran - 5) i really couldnt find a name i liked and he went nameless for the full 6wks! While i dont dislike his name i have never quite shaken the feeling that there is better name if only i could have thought of it! ;D
Bailey Isaac- Bailey was chosen as he was made in 'bay' vw camper !!! and his middle name Isaac was chosen on the way to the registary office becasue the initials BIG made us laugh !!!
Tabitha Rose, no idea where tabitha came from but roses are my favorite flowers
Violet Willow is due in august Violet because it was my partners mothers name and Willow because the tree holds magiacl powers and is my favorite tree
Georgina Elizabeth and James Stephen They are known as George and Jamie, the Elizabeth is family tradition (eldest daughter's second name) and Stephen is my father's name.
I may try my best to be "green" and am more of an attached parent than not, but I am definitely not a hippy.
Sadie Athinai Sadie is an old victorian derivative of Sarah and Athinai is the Greek Godess Athens was named after. Hopefully our children will forgive us when they're older!
Kathryn Elizabeth, known as Kate, I've always loved the name and Elizabeth is a bit of a traditional middle name in my family (at least 4 generations now ) and Miriam Joan, known as Miri, again really like the name and Joan is after MIL (who I get on very well with btw )

When i was growing up (100% white britsh community!) I was the only one with an "unusual" name. I was named after the cornish village where my parents went on honeymoon…. wink wink, nudge nudge…. I didnt like it at the time, but really appriciate it now…. lovely names everone!
Eleanor Elizabeth Anne Rose. Eleanore becuase we liked it, Elizabeth is family name on DH's side, Anne is a family name on my side and Rose because DH's nan (Dorothy Rosemary) passed on a few days before DD was born. She had tried so very hard to hang on to meet her and then couldn't quite make it.
DS1 is Finlay Stuart Leonard. Finlay (fair haired warrior) just somehow suits him, Stuart is a family name on DH's side and Leonard is after my dad.
Bean is Jude Arthur Stuart. Jude we both liked (one of the few boys names we could agree on) Arthur (just a name I like) and Stuart same as before.
DH is not in the least bit hippyish and wouldn't even consider anything that way inclined.
Eldest is Lori as its the first 2 letters of my wife (LOuise) and my name and the second daughter is Charlotte Anne because of the… you know I dont know why, and our soon to be son will be called Hunter after the author, so probably not that hippy after all.
My husband is not a hippy type at all so anything even slightly unusual was out. I would have loved to come up with something special but it was not to be. My daughter is Rachel, she was nameless for a month and so we only got to one name, trying any more and she might still not have a name LOL.
The bump to arrive in a few weeks has no name yet, I LOVE Noah but dh is not keen
Our DD is Erin Jane. She is 2 years old. Erin is Celtic for Ireland apparently. We didn't visit Ireland until she was 5 months old for my brothers wedding to an Irish girl. We just liked the name and it was the only one we could agree on after a long list. If she was a boy it would have been Aran.
Jane is my middle name and my mums first name, it just seemed to go.
One of the problems we had is that I work in a school office and any name we came up with I would associate with some of the not so great kids. One of my teacher friends had the same problem when her daughter was born, her name is Menna. I also liked Rosie but my husbands late dog was called Rosie.
Nothing Hippy about my children's names ;D, George Arthur, Peggy Elizabeth and Edith Laura. All three are named after special people in our family of our Grandparents generation!
I'm Susan Chantelle but was allways called Chantelle (Mum didn't think Chantelle Susan sounded right!) so I couldn't call my daughter a 'normal name' could I?
Jacinth Abiba was the name we finally chose - it was going to be Christiarna Adelle but I didn't want an Aunt thinking I was naming my baby after her!!!
THEN it was going to be Jaycinth but when I wrote it down in the Hospital for Tim to go and register her, I wrote it as Jacinth. (Ja as in Jam sin th) - still have people writing it down as Jason!!!
Abiba means 'beloved grandaughter born after grandmother's death' which was the prettyest way I could name her after my mum (Susan). Some translations don't have the beloved bit but we allways use the one that does!
Jacinth, or Jaycinth as it was, was in the Challet school books which I collect.
