well we have had 5 babies, mostly their names were just because we liked them.
Grace was in reflection of our faith.Nathan came about after we told  an sweet elderly lady at church we were  expecting. She told us we were going to have a prophet so we set about picking a prophets name.Personally I wanted  Micah but DH was having none of it,he kept saying all his presents would be labelled 'For Micah'.

We didn't have a huge list of names while I was pregnant, but I just liked the sound of Niamh Muriel (Niamh means bright and Muriel means bright sea).

Anyway, she was prem and as I lay there waiting for the surgeon to finish putting me back together (!) I thought how nice it would be to have both my grandmothers' remembered in her name so my DD is Niamh Ethel Muriel (Niamh because we liked the sound of the name and what it means; Ethel (means noble) for my paternal grandmother; Muriel for my maternal grandmother).  I changed the order of her 2nd and 3rd names because her initials would have sounded 'enemy' if they had been left in the order I wanted originally.

We have three girls:

Isabella Christina (after my great-grandmother and grandmother)

Martha Alice (named after relatives on my husband's side of the family)

Eloise Beatrice Joy (I would have preferred her to be Beatrice, but the initial 'B' with our surname was a no-go, and Joy because she was, and is an (unexpected) joy)  wink

I have a Catriona Joy who is known as Kitty - Kitty because we liked it but thought she might not when she's older, so on her birth cert it is Catriona which is more traditional and "serious".  Joy because she is!

Also a Merryn Fioni Eva - Merryn because I liked it, have since discovered there is a St Merryn with a district in Padstow named after her.  Fioni and Eva are her grandmothers names

My husband is not a hippy type at all so anything even slightly unusual was out. I would have loved to come up with something special but it was not to be. My daughter is Rachel, she was nameless for a month and so we only got to one name, trying any more and she might still not have a name LOL.

The bump to arrive in a few weeks has no name yet, I LOVE Noah but dh is not keen

we have a Noah, Dh wasn't keen but came around to it!

I went for biblical names, Dd is Phoebe  Seren,  Phoebe is NT and Seren is a welsh name we choose, as my ancestors were welsh, and I liked trhe meaning, also have a Zach

My son is called Kilian Alarith, my ex and I wanted a name that's not too common but also want give him any trouble later with his peers and Kilian was the only one we could agree upon :D Alarith was on the insistence of my ex, the name of an old hun king or something like that.

I'm pregnant with my second boy now and he'll be named Endymion.
Just a name I had in my mind for ages, even befor I knew it was actually a real name and I just love the sound of it!
It's out of the Greek myths&legends. Endymion was a sheperd of such beauty that the moon godess Selene fell in love with him.

Our three year old is Claudia James. It was the first name we thought of and it just felt right. We tried to come up with other names because we thought we shouldn't choose the first name we came up with, but it was just meant to be. Our eighteen month old is Harriet India. It was much harder to choose, and has no meaning or sentimental connection whatsoever.

Hi,
Emily Jimima- Emily was chosen by my hubby about 9 years ago, we'd only been dating 1 year at that point and he just randomly said that if he ever had a daughter he would call it Emily- a bit of a bizarre comment from a child-phobic, 6-foot tall engineer but the name stuck; Jimima because my grandpa Jim (94 years old and still doing the gardening and walking everywhere) when I told him I was expecting his first great grandchild said that "it better be named after me!".
Tomas Michael James- Tomas meaning twin- and I was convinced I was carrying twins until the scan (and rather dissapointed as my mums a twin and would have loved a pair too), Michael after my amazing father-in-law who passed away far too soon and would have been so happy to know his son was a father of 2 gorgeous children. James-after Grandpa Jim again.

We have a son called Alexander Jose who is 2. DH is half Portuguese and we hope to move to Portugal in the next few years, also DH speaks to him in Portuguese so we needed a name that could work in both languages…I kept changing my mind as I preferred Leo at the time but DH didn't like it and now I'm happy with our choice. Alexander means "strong" and thank goodness he lived up to his name - he was very ill for most of his 1st year but is fighting fit now  wink

We spend lots of time in France and Italy for holidays, where his name also works perfectly (Alexandre in French and Alessandro in Italian). We really wanted him to have a name that people could easily pronounce and understand all around the world.

We still call him Alexander (DH calls him Alexandre pronounced Ali-SHAN-dray in Portuguese) but nursery staff sometimes say Alex. I sometimes call him Xander. Jose is the Portuguese equivalent of Joseph, who is a very dear nephew, and funnily enough Joseph and Alexander are extremely close which is lovely.

If we had another son I love names like Daniel and Benjamin, for a girl we'd chosen Emilia Barbara (Barbara was my late mother's name), not particularly exciting names but I'm not a hippy as I love traditional names. Also these names would all work in English, Portuguese and most other European languages.

Rosemary (Rosie for short) because I liked the name and there are lots of Rose's in DH's side in Ireland
Michael because DH's father was called Michael
James because I've always liked the name
Eva because I've always liked the name and I can sing to all the Evita musical songs loudly and make her smile!

My sister is called Rosie, but it's short for Rosalin. Her parents were both coincidently reading books with a character called Rosalin in them while our mum was pregnant. Weird, because I've never come across the name elsewhere.

We have Jenna Marie (Jenna is a coastal welsh name meaning "of the white waves" and is supposedly from Jennifer-Gweneviere).  We chose it because it just felt right, especially finding out the meaning since I've always felt a pull to the sea.  Marie is from Mary, I suppose our nod to Christian convention lol - we wanted a more normal middle name in case she hates being a Jenna when she grows up.

She would have been a Joshua if she was a boy, so I'm especially glad she wasn't as there was an explosion of Joshuas around here that year!

The baby is Morgan Anne (Morgan is another welsh coastal name so part of our reasonning was that they seemed to sound right together.  It means "maiden on the sea shore" so also for that meaning, similar to Jenna's.)  We chose the middle name first for her, knowing that if we had a little girl we wanted to honour the mother of my best friend who took me in at 17 when my parents washed their hands of me.  We sent months debating girls names that went with Anne!

She would have been Caleb if she was a boy, and the same thing happened - it suddenly became very trendy that year.

Well, I am a hippy, maxi dresses, long hair, the lot. We wanted unusual biblical names so we have Zadok Abel Gershom (he loves the fact that Zadok is very rare!) and Elijah Simeon. Alas, a small sprouting of Elijah Woods is beginning to appear, lol. We have a priest and a prophet, perhaps we should try for a king? Hezekiah, anyone?

lol.
Once, when zadok was small, we heard a mum call out 'Solomon' to her boy in a shop. I've always regreted not introducing myself and getting the boys together. We met an American baby boy called Elisha on a train once though!
