I dont like triclosan in toiletries due to the whole superbug/antibiotic resistance arguement, so here is my dilema…..

If you go into public toilets and the only soap there is liquid soap containing triclosan do you soap your hands or not??

what do you think?

Don't know really….could you keep some of your usual soap in your bag? - I know you can get travel size containers so keep things in.

Green people do travel sizes, which are nice and compact.  Their baby shower gel is ideal for everything & everyone!

I just use water when out and about smile

I have a small spray in the car that has lemon and lavender essential oils in it topped up with water - I'll use some of that on a tissue as a 'wet wipe' if I feel the need for it.

I agree about the issue with triclosan (I'm very careful about what chemicals we have in the house and would never use an 'anti-bacterial' wash) but don't think just water will really clean your hands. Assuming that you don't spend a huge amount of time in public toilets I would use the stuff as it is only occasional - we just need to lobby more on the bigger issue of chemical/antibacterial cleaners in all sorts of public areas. Do you know that all public toilet soaps actually contain triclosan?

I keep travel size eco babywipes in my bag. They don't take up a lot of room and I would rather gives my hands a wipe with those.

It really in some ways bugs me that- whilst in my private life I am avoiding harsh chemicals as much as possible- when I am at work (in an NHS hospital!) I am expected to drench my hands and forearms (and inhale) in really nasty chemicals giving me chemical dermatitis. The amount of NHS staff under 'special measures' due to skin conditions especially latex allergy etc is really quite frightening

I think that handwashing is very important and I don,t think that the occasional use of a hand soap containing triclosan would cause long term damage. there are too many antibacterial products on the market now for general cleaning etc etc which is not good. What I am concerned about is the intimate hygiene soaps that contain who knows what that probably do more harm than good.
