I’m re-reading What Mothers Do by Naomi Stadlen.  And I’m expecting an Amazon order today or tomorrow!  What else would I spend insurance payout on? wink

hungrycaterpillar, was the Ali Smith good?  I liked The Accidental a lot and have been meaning to read either Girl Meets Boy or her new collection of short stories….

I’m reading The End by Salvatore Scibona, not sure how much press it got in the UK but it was a big debut in the US last year and a finalist for the National Book Award.  It’s proving to be a bit much for my pregnant brain, though, very abstract and philosophical in parts, and therefore taking me ages….  The last one I finished was The Northern Clemency, which I felt was quite an accomplishment—for ME, I mean—because it was close to 800 pages long.  I did like it—thoroughly entertaining and quite funny in parts.

Yes Preetabird it was really good! Loved it in fact, written in beautiful continuous stream of consciousness that was so easy to read and made it real so simple but actually was really clever and inspiring. Bit raunchy in places tho so I warn you wink  I’ve done them the other way round as The accidental is on my wish list! Really recommend it, tho I love anything by a witty feminist lol.

I’m reading The Mill on the Floss (George Eliot) because I’ve been meaning to read it for years! I’m really enjoying it, but I do tend to page-count a bit with longer books - I’m over halfway now so I can relax and enjoy it more, lol!

And The Highly Sensitive Person as well - I like reading a non fiction book alongside fiction. And the GP magazine, as I always try to make it last as long as possible… I’m so sad!

I liked The Accidental too - and just read ‘The Power of One’ by Bryce Courtenay for book group - has anyone read that?

The Wilderness by Samantha Harvey on the shortlist for the orange prize, and a book called Singled Out, about single women post first world war, very interesting.

Just finished reading “Jerusalem betrayed” which is a change from my normal reading material but was very good and I now have a better understanding of the conflict in the middle east and the politics behind it too.
