It’s like Marmite - you love it or you hate it!

Phoenix - the article in GP was far more tame and reader friendly than the book by Marshall Rosenberg imo.  If you acctually read some of the scripts and do some of the exercises in the book it’s awful and down right irritating!  I had to put the book down before I finished it. I have a copy I would be more than happy to pass on for free if anyone wants one!

It’s awesome that we have all been inspired to discuss and consider how we communicate having read the article though, it’s done me the world of good!  Thanks GP!

Some people are always grumbling because roses have thorns. I am
thankful that thorns have roses

I have tried NVC, and agree with the “selfishness” idea.  My 11 year old will “use it” with me, to highlight his needs (which whilst important often cannot be met at the time due to “Family needs”).  Ie we have to work together as a unit, and sometimes that means not being able to do what you want, when you want. Things can then descend into a downwards spiral.  I think there are far better ways of communicating non-violently than discussing feelings constantly, such as organisation, explaining what is happening and why, and where there is the time, space etc to just honour their choices and give them free-reign.

I got far more out of the article by the father who was working from home (I forget his name), about being present with your children, and allowing them space and time.

As far as safety is concerned (alongside other comments and more to me than Babes) I have been known to say (with a note of humour…)

“You may think you live in a democracy Babes but mummy’s word is law…”
