“My friend and I first pulled on our swimming costumes and went for a dip on Boxing Day last year, and then we were in again on New Year’s Day. My house is just one mile from the sea, and we have dipped or swum every week since. I inherited this love of sea swimming from my mother who would dash to the sea at every opportunity and disappear into the blue.

People say we are crazy, but I think they are to not be open to such a wonderful experience. We have experienced such a beautiful reconnection to nature together. The sight of a orange sunrise doesn’t just get an admiring glance, now it sparks a wild swim opportunity in my head.

“The cold water awakens the body and mind and the accomplishment boosts us for our day ahead”

Sometimes we need to defrost the car, sometimes it’s raining and dreary but most swims have provided us with a sunrise light show. Yes it’s cold, yes sometimes we have doubts but it’s also a challenge that we have faced and enjoyed together. We are both mums to busy little boys so these moments of peace in the cold water are ours and ours alone.

We try to stay in a little longer each week and our bodies are definitely adjusting. The cold water awakens the body and mind and the accomplishment boosts us for our day ahead. Give it a try; you might just love it. We call it vitamin sea.”
